Icon: St. Mary-Le-Bow Church
Nice intimate show featuring John Wetton and Geoff Downes from Asia. Icon is a side project John and Geoff did in between the Asia reunion shows and albums. This show is actually nice to see and finally available. It features many songs from the first two Icon albums and the Asia Astra album with an unique mix of songs ranging from the Buggles to King Crimson. The sound is really good for small venue on the DVD and CD's.The weakness is in the video quality but it is definitely watchable. Some of the cameras seem to have better quality than others. Plus the menu on the DVD could have been better. Overall, a nice live recording of two great song writers during their reunion period.

John Wettons All-Star Band
I found out about the release of this CD/DVD set from John Wetton's website when I first heard of his passing earlier this year. The concert was held at the St. Mary-Le-Bow Church in London 21 February 2009. I am a big Asia fan, but never explored the Wetton/Downes catalogue. The mix of Asia, Kings Crimson and Buggles made this CD very enjoyable, with quality sound. I particularly enjoyed the duos with John and Anne-Marie Helder (Panic Room). A must for any hardcore Asia or Wetton fan.

Much better, in some ways
Much better, in some ways, than an ASIA concert. The music covers solo and previous bands Wetton and Downes were in. A bonus ix the better, never played tracks from the third ASIA album. Nice intimate performance in a London church. R.I.P John! A nice package with CD;'s and DVD concert.

A lovely record of an outstanding performance
By far the best live album from the Wetton/Downes side project. Beautiful harmony vocals from Anne-Marie Helder add a new dimension to some of the ASIA classics.

Best icon to date
Quality musicians, fine audio quality, OK video quality, wonderful performance. Would have given (fill in the blank) to have been there.

John Wetton and Geoff Downes Rules as Asia or as Icon
It doesn't get any better than Wetton and Downes. Love their Icon projects and this is a great CD/DVD and remarkable sound.

John Wetton Up Close
The film is not of the highest resolution, nor the sound pitch perfect, but that makes the concert feel all the more 'real' and even if I've never been to the quite remarkable venue, I felt as though I were there. I have to admit to a less than objective eye, as over the last 10 years or so, I became very friendly with John Wetton and like many, was shocked by his untimely death. As I watched and listened to the songs, especially those from the Icon project, I recalled all the many intense discussions we had had over plenty of coffee somewhere in Bournemouth, as he thoughtfully took the time to explain how Icon had come to fruition and the thinking behind many of the songs, and the departure from Asia material. In the concert. I noticed the intriguing way he would engage with the specific members of the audience from time-to-time, his face a very effective means of communication. I noticed this at Asia concerts I attended and when I would meet him. Not only does the concert showcase his wonderful voice and immense song writing talents, we also witness moments of outstanding bass playing and his warmth as a person. Of course the show is not just abut John Wetton, with the other members of Icon all vital and integral members of what was a very refreshing experiment; however many times I watch Geoff Downes play the keyboards, I'll never fathom how he does it. Looking back now, of course I sincerely regret not trying to get a ticket (although I was to see Asia play at Kilburn not long after) but this set and especially the DVD is a fine way to experience John Wetton close up and to enjoy what a remarkable musician and humble person he was.

It includes three of their beautiful duets - To Catch a Thief
Icon (principally the late John Wetton and Geoff Downes) are one of the little known gems of melodic rock. This is a live performance of a selection of tracks from the three Icon albums. It includes three of their beautiful duets - To Catch a Thief, Raven and In the End. Wetton sings these with the talented Anne Marie-Helder in this concert, and both are note-perfect throughout. In the End is a perfect, haunting, evocative, optimistic song for a funeral - a real tear jerker but in a good way!Interspersed are some Icon rockers - The Die is Cast and Let Me Go are very faithful to the album versions - tuneful ballads I've Come to take You Home and the beautiful Meet Me at Midnight, and a handful of tracks from their collective back catalogue from Asia, King Crimson and the Buggles. The Asia tracks include some that are rarely played live, the only live recording of Rock and Roll Dream from the Astra album, and an intriguing slow-tempo version of the much-recorded Heat of the Moment. The selections show how much thought and care went into this concert, and the versatility of the band. The DVD shows a restrained, respectful and appreciative audience, appropriate for the unusual setting of St Mary-Le-Bow Church. This adds to the quality of the recording, as crowd noise doesn't interfere with the music. It's almost rock in the atmosphere of a classical concert, and all the better for it when the music speaks for itself.

Great set
Great music. Many reviewers have said the video quality is not great but I don’t see a problem with it (I have an older Sharp flat screen TV, perhaps newer TVs show the picture limitations). One question. The audience cheering and applause - as recorded or has it been added? I’m not too sure. Discuss.

A Truly Fantastic Purchase
I've been a big fan of Geoff Downes (keyboard wizard from the Buggles, Asia etc, etc). Anyway, I recently had a very late Saturday night browsing music video/ music tech on YouTube and stumbled upon a video of a gig that John Wetton and Geoff Downes had been involved in at St Mary Le Bow Church in London. I was totally blown away by the music and the abundance of talented musicians therein. John Wetton has a stunning singing voice as has Anne-Marie Helder (wow). 1 DVD and 2 CD's in quality packaging (Sleeves). This is seriously, a very worthy investment. You will not be disappointed. Buy now!

Amazing and unusual musical experience.
As someone who has only just come across Icon - although I am very familiar with John Wetton's solo material and have loved Asia since their initial inception- I was thrilled to hear and see this unique concert. Ironically I was in London that night at a West End theatre show. Little did I realise what magic was being created nearby! What a privilege to experience! Sadly it only reinforces what a great talent has been lost with the untimely demise of John Wetton in January 2017.
