SmallRig Top Handle A Filmmaker’s Best Friend
As a photographer and filmmaker, I’m always looking for tools that can enhance my workflow without overcomplicating things. The SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 turned out to be exactly what I needed. First Impressions Right out of the box, the handle feels solid. The aluminum alloy build is durable but doesn’t weigh down my rig, which is a huge plus when you’re working on long shoots. I also noticed the anti-twist pins—such a small detail but a total lifesaver for keeping everything secure. How It Helps I used this handle during a recent handheld shoot, and the difference in control was night and day. Panning and tilting felt smoother, and my shots were more stable overall. The ergonomic grip was comfortable even after hours of filming. Bonus: the 1/4"-20 threads made attaching my monitor and mic super easy. It’s like having a mini workbench on your rig! The Real Deal The thing that sold me was how versatile and intuitive this handle is. I don’t want to wrestle with equipment on set, and this handle just works. It’s simple, reliable, and makes my setup look as professional as it feels. Final Thoughts If you’re in the market for a handle that does its job without any fuss, the SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 is worth every penny. It’s practical, sturdy, and genuinely makes shooting easier. Highly recommend for anyone serious about their craft!

Nice handle for a SmallRig Cage
I recently added the SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 Locating Pins (3765) to my camera rig setup with my Nikon Z6, and it’s been a fantastic addition for both functionality and comfort. This handle is designed for low-angle shots, and it delivers on that promise by reducing strain on my arms during extended shoots. Weighing only 124g due to its hollowed-out aluminum alloy design, it’s impressively lightweight yet feels incredibly sturdy and durable, making it easy to carry my rig around without fatigue. The ergonomic design with anti-slip and anti-freeze silicone padding is a standout. It provides a comfortable grip, even in colder conditions, which is a thoughtful touch for outdoor shoots. The five cold shoe mounts (three front, two rear) are a game-changer, allowing me to simultaneously mount accessories like a microphone, LED light, and my VILTROX DC-X2 monitor without cluttering the setup. The abundance of 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting points further enhances its versatility, letting me attach additional gear like a monitor mount (SmallRig 2903) or magic arm with ease.

Solid piece of kit
This handle pairs nicely with my SmallRig cage I'm using with my Canon R6 MkIII body. It makes shooting low angle shots a breeze and is a safe and dependable way to carry my video rig from location to location. It has plenty of mounting points in various screw sizes to accommodate any future customizations I can anticipate. The price is incredibly reasonable for what you get.

Great Build Quality but Not Ideal for Heavier Rigs
SmallRig continues to impress with its high-quality and versatile products. The SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 Locating Pin is no exception in terms of craftsmanship. It’s sturdy, well-designed, and fits perfectly with a variety of setups. The Arri-style locating pins ensure a secure fit, and installation with the included Allen key is quick and easy. Initially, I was very pleased with the handle. It’s low-profile, not too large or bulky, and balances well on smaller rigs. I appreciated the flexibility it offered, such as attaching accessories like a monitor or small fill light. The option to integrate a 15mm rod through the center is also a nice touch. However, as I upgraded my Panasonic GH5 setup into a heavier rig (adding an Atomos Ninja 5, Tilta plate, and Anton Bauer gold mount batteries), I found the handle less practical. The short length and forward positioning made it difficult to balance the 10lb rig properly. It felt top-heavy and awkward, especially for handheld use. Additionally, the handle’s shape and size weren’t ideal for securely gripping such a heavy setup—it even felt like it could slip out of my hand at times. For lighter setups or those without significant backweight, this handle is a great choice. But if you’re building a more robust rig with heavy accessories, you might want to consider a longer or more ergonomically designed handle. Pros: Excellent build quality Secure fit with Arri-style locating pins Compact and easy to store Flexible accessory mounting options Cons: Not ideal for heavier rigs Short handle length limits balance and grip Awkward positioning for large setups While it’s a solid product, I had to part ways with it due to my rig’s evolving needs. Great for smaller builds, but less suitable for heavy-duty setups.
