Genie 6172H-O Wall Mount Smart Garage Door Opener with Aladdin Connect, Wall Mounted Compact Space Saving Opener

Granted my previous overhead opener dates back to 1997. This new opener is very very quiet and also fixed a major problem I had with the 1997 opener. The 1997 opener was installed OFF-Centered!!! Why? the installer apparently could not find a wood support behind the drywall for the opener. So they installed some feeble bracket allow the opener to be mounted off centered. This bracket would twist every time the opener would pull the door up, I am amazed the bracket survived from 1997. I was always worried that one day the bracket would twist so much it would just break. Enough of the old stuff. This opener was very easy to install once I fixed up issues with the garage door itself: tube shaft needed to be shift to provide required space, garage door track needed to shift for clearance for cable tensioner. The opener itself is something one person can install by themselves. Other than some basic hand tools: socket wrench, open wrench, bullet level, screw driver. It's incredibly quiet, the only thing we hear now is the rollers rattling on the hinges as the door opens and closes. Love the Genie Aladdin Feature being able to open and close with the cell phone. It's the best thing ever, would not and will not ever go back to an overhead opener again as there are just too many parts associated with overhead openers.

So I had a $50000 Pole Barn built and I needed 3 garage door openers decided to go with a genie model 6172. All 3 of them installed without a problem and work correctly with the exception of the one wireless wall controller does not seem to be powering up. I even tried new batteries in it. So I called genie's customer service line and they were not able to be able to send me the correct wall controller that came brand new in the box..and they said they weren'table to help me and the lady hung up on me. This is the worst Case scenario for a company to treat their customers like that. Unbelievable I will never purchase a genie product again and will never recommend that company to anyone.

So far I like these openers. They are really quiet and easy to set up. They do open slower than my overhead style, but not really an issue. Only gripe is you have to use the light to get all the Aladin wireless options.

Excellent opener. Got it for my RV bay door. Smooth and quiet. Love the delay close button. Programming cars and remotes gets tricky if you need to press learn button. I need tall ladder to reach the unit. Overall happy.

I installed two of these at my house recently. Very easy install using the Bilt app, thorough and well documented graphic instructions. The opener is easy to pair to my car's homelink, easy to mount, etc. After doing the first one, the second install took about 40 minutes the next week. I love the mobile app, notification of when the door is opened or closer, the ability to set a routine like automatically closing the door between 8pm and 8am and most importantly, how quiet the unit is. The only negative I'd give it is that it has a very very slight low hum when sitting idle. I didn't notice it with the first install but having 2 in the same garage I noticed it. I was annoyed for about 5 minutes and then forgot about it. Any time I'm in my garage I'm moving around, playing music or something that would distract me from the sound, it isn't something that would deter me from the purchase. Definitely recommend, happy I went with this. I spent months comparing the Chamberlain and Liftmaster and at the very last minute a friend suggested this one and I made an unexpected but fortunate swap.

After installing the mechanical the rest was easy. Just follow directions. The soft ware app is working out great. I can now monitor my door and open it when someone need access when I am not home and close it from where ever I am in the state. Love this garage opener. P.s. don't pull the manual override string to hard. there is an easy fix but you must take the machine apart and then reinstall the unit back on the wall. Approve this machine 100%. Real Quite.

So this unit comes with a bottom cover to hide the connections to the unit. Great idea but very poor execution. Your engineers need to try to install the base plate. You must remove the two screws the bottom which actually holds the face plate in place on the unit. The tolerances are so tight between the cabinet and the face plate it pressures the face panel off the unit and out of alignment with the screws. It would take a person with five arms to hold the face plate in the correct place then trying to get the screws in oh well just forget it. Very poor design. After several attempts I gave up. Your engineers really messed this one up. Suggestion. Add two additional screws in the bottom that hold the face plate so the other screws that hold the bottom plate aren’t holding on the face plate or check your manufacture because the unit must be being built out of spect. The face plate fits way too tight on the unit. Second issue you instructions are not very good on how to get the unit to re engage are pulling the emergency release for the door when tightening screws on the torsion bar. I tried multiple times and couldn’t get it done. The website is NO help. When you look online and ask the question how to resolve the problem it doesn’t even show this opener. Better documentation would be helpful. Overall like the product but you need to clean things up.
