Everybody needs to eat, even dictators. I had never before considered the situation or perspective of the persons ensuring that dictators are properly fed. It reveals that monsters have human sides, or at least human needs. Their personal chef may actually be the person who knows most about them at the end of the day. Lots of information and tales that you'll never have heard about before. Unique book.

Absolutely loved this book and it's one I'd return to again to read as well as for reference.It's informative, insightful , surprisingly enjoyable and a refreshing perspective.

I - and my book club - really liked this book. It is written by an author who went to the trouble to track down the kitchen staff and cooks of dictators, including Saddam Hussein and Fidel Castro among several others. The cooks' stories were very interesting, although mostly about the dictators themselves rather than only about their food choices. Most of the dictators seemed to enjoy simple home cooking, so the book is not about lavish banquets or fancy appetites. The relationship between dictators and their cooks is a most interesting one, too.

Really enjoyed the book. Non- fiction yet so unique and interesting.
