It's gears and a chain. It's mechanically very interesting/entertaining. As a general fidget I don't like it as much as some of the other ones I have that slide and make noise. It is quiet which is awesome, and I like rolling it on my arm like a tank tread.

I get a lot of compliments on how cool this thing looks. Nothing against the product as it is well made, but I'm finding that in order to use only one hand, I need something just a little smaller for my stubby fingers.
