Supremely likable Guy, classic Kyle, and Hal's super big mess up!
I don't know why Venditti's GL books from the New 52 were so poorly received, but DC clearly made the right choice to keep him on the title as he's been writing pure gold since the start of Rebirth!Story: We have two stories going on here: the first is mainly focused on two objectives, that is, the GL Corps helping the Sinestro Corps to capture rogue SC members while helping them build their own power battery next to the Battery of Will. The other objective focuses on Hal and Kyle trying to locate Hope out there in the cosmos. They run into an old friend on a volcanic like world, Saint Walker! Together, they fight off the mound of misery and Walker lets us in on a bit more of the characterizations of Hal and Kyle. This whole mission seems to be for the purpose of using Saint Walker as an "antennae" to allow Kyle to use the powers of the white lantern to resurrect the blue lantern corps. I really liked the next part which eventually sees Kyle welcomed back into the GL Corps with his original costume (which I really like)! I don't know what this means for the white lantern though. The best part of the first arc in this book involves Guy Gardner in his pursuit of his chosen rogue Sinestro Corps member, Arkillo! Everything that happens between Gardner and Arkillo in this whole book is pure gold. I don't know how he does it, but Venditti consistently writes an awesome Guy Gardner. How great a writer he must be if he can make everyone's least favorite human GL possibly their new favorite! Rebirth has been making me a fan of Guy Gardner, something I would have laughed at in the past. He's tough, he's brave, and he's perhaps a little smarter than most people give him credit for. Venditti pulled no punches here. He didn't use a cop out or a deus ex machina. He came close with that last one, but he gave us a full on ringless Gardner vs. Arkillo fight, and there's so much to love about it as we see where Guy gains his will from. It's rather tragic, but knowing Gardner better through the flashbacks makes it easier to identify with him and his very relatable origin. What we get soon after is something that I want to say Venditti slightly pulled (in spirit only) from the aftermath of Marvel's Civil War. We get an almost Tony talking to dead Steve moment between Gardner and Arkillo and I have to say I found it moving. Perhaps the narrative had Gardner and Arkillo become "friends" a little too fast after Arkillo was intent on killing him so soon before. The second arc in this book involves Rip Hunter time traveling back to our present to warn John Stewart about the erasure of the GL Corps in his future by a time criminal who has come back with a darn good plan to insure the permanent rise of the Sinestro Corps. The two freshly allied Corps have to battle these prism creatures that cut through constructs, and which the Lantern Corps find their attacks to be completely useless against. Hal realizes that this entire scenario is actually his fault and heads off with Rip Hunter to confront the time criminal. The true origin of the mysterious time traveler is revealed and I was SHOCKED to discover his true identity! This really goes to show how mistakes in the past can shape the future, and how bad decisions have consequences that we must eventually deal with. Because of the basic good vs. evil themes going on here, and due to the theme of that last story here, I would recommend this title for children and early teens, though any adult can easily enjoy this. It's not necessarily written for kids, but it touches on themes that would benefit kids to read about like loyalty to friends, making friends out of enemies, and the consequences of bad decisions.Art: Once again headed up by two master craftsmen, Ethan van Sciver and Rafa Sandoval, this book looks freakin' fantastic!! There was one panel on one page where I really had to call into question Sandoval's penciling quality as proportion was wacky, but beyond that everything for the most part looks pretty good! One other penciler does most of the second arc and I can't remember his name, and his style isn't as refined as van Sciver's or Sandoval's, but he has a satisfactory level of craftsmanship. This book is still very vibrant and beautiful. There's a richness to the green here, but what else would you expect from this caliber of talent?Overall: Venditti keeps bringing me back with great cosmic adventure stories. He's really writing the next great GL epic! The one thing that Venditti needs to do now which I've never seen him do at DC is build up a title to a major storyline or a limited series like Blackest Night! I'd like to see what he has as a major event writer.

Great art and story, newbie is now a life-long fan
I just recently got into Super Hero comics. I had read Star Trek comics during the TNG era in the 1990s, DS9 and Starfleet Acadamy with Nog being my favorite and then very shortly in 2015 I tried the new Star Wars comics that were not to my taste. This new DC rebirth era is great and I have primarily read Superman, Green Lantern and Suicide Squad. I have lots more to read but this third volume of Green Lanterns is where the Hal Jordan (new to me) story kicks in and the combo of the art and the story catch me. I really look forward to buying some older stuff to learn more about the different lanterns and stuff because of this series. So if you want in on Green Lantern and are new like me read vol 1, 2 and 3 of the rebirth DC stuff (btw they just dropped the rebirth label in January but are continuing the story)Not to mention Ethan Van Sciver's youtube channel really gets you into Green Lantern since he is the artist.

The Green Lantern Corps
Another great Green Lantern book. We see Guy take on the big yellow ring monster and wins and sees why he is usually such an ass to everyone. And the bad guy from the future is Kyle's son and dies.

Fantastic, old school sci-fi
Fantastic, old school sci-fi! This may be my favorite book in rebirth so far. The title is a little misleading though, it should be called just Green Lantern Corps. While Hal Jordan is technically the star, he by no means monopolizes the book. John Stewart, Kyle Rayner and my favorite - Guy Gardner all feel fleshed out. Which is a rare thing indeed. Not only that but the Yellow Lanterns get their fair share too. I love this book.

One of the best series from the DC Rebirth line
Quest for Hope continues (and mostly wraps up) the plots started during volumes one and two.The artwork continues to be stunning; Ethan Van Sciver and Rafa Sandoval are so talented, I just love everything they produce. Robert Venditti is still onboard for writing (thankfully, I can’t stand sudden switches like that). The Green Lantern Corps and the Sinestro Corps are still struggling to work alongside one another, and are starting to make progress in that direction. The complexity of the situation makes it an interesting read. Not only are we dealing with two teams that literally work within different spectrums (of light, that is), but we also have biases from both sides, as well as justified hurt, frustration, and even some vendettas. It goes without saying that John Stewart and Soranik have their work cut out for them. What really sucked me into the whole Yellow vs. Green conflict was Guy. And yes, I am a bit surprised to hear myself saying that. Guy decided to do what he does best: do something stupid and reckless without telling anyone. I’ve always been impressed by the beatings that man can take and dish out, but this brought it to a whole new level for me. I was actually cringing for Guy at a few different moments. The flashbacks to his childhood piled onto the feels for that moment. It was just a perfect cocktail of “ouch.”It took pretty much all of my willpower not to jump straight to commenting on my favorite part of the story: Saint Walker’s back! (In case you haven’t noticed, Saint Walker is one of my favorite characters). I’ll admit this probably wasn’t my favorite Saint Walker introduction (that title goes to the Green Lantern cartoon series), but it also wasn’t the worst. So I’ll take it. I’m just happy to have him back!It seems like from here Venditti took some time to set things back to a more basic stage. We’ve seen it happen already; Hal has an actual physical body back (as opposed to being created out of Green Lantern energy). In the process of trying to bring back the rest of the fallen Blue Lanterns (a move urged by Ganthet, naturally. I wonder why he didn’t try this for some of the lost Green Lanterns? Was it dependent on the time and space of where they died?) Kyle Rainer loses control of all the rings save one, the green ring. This pretty much resets him back to a Green Lantern again. In short we now have a small Green Lantern Corps, an even smaller Sinestro Crops, one Blue Lantern, no White Lanterns, and the rest of the spectrum have yet to truly make an appearance.A new plot was simultaneously introduced and concluded in this volume as well. Though while it may be wrapped up, I think it’s pretty clear we’re going to see the effects of it for a while yet (especially with Kyle Rainer). I’ll confess right off the bat that I’m a time travel snob, so unless it is done absolutely perfectly I tend not to love plots involving them. This is one of those times – it was a decent attempt by any standard, I just feel like it came off a little cheesy. The ending leaves me with a lot of questions about paradoxes and resolutions, but I’ll spare my review of those questions.I am curious to see how Kyle moves on with the knowledge that he has. For example, will he persist in courting Soranik, or will he let it drop, knowing what will happen because of it? (And again, here raises more paradox questions). If I had to make a guess I’d say that this subject will explored more heavily in the Kyle Rainer series that’s coming out (have I mentioned how excited I am for that?).Despite not loving this volume, I still maintain that the Green Lantern part of Rebirth is my favorite so far. I can’t wait for volume four or for Kyle Rainer volume one for that matter. In the meantime I’m planning on binging through the Green Lantern (main plot) series to help bridge the gap.

QUASE perfeito
