Al-Ghazali on Disciplining the Soul and on Breaking the Two Desires: Books XXII and XXIII of the Revival of the Religious Sciences (Ghazali series) Paperback – August 1, 2017

Great book, but I will give a warning, it is VERY philosophy heavy. I enjoy reading it when I am in a learning mood and willing to take notes, but when I just want something to read for fun I don't pick this book up. Unless you have stellar reading skills and a good understanding of Islamic Philosophy already, it will be difficult for you to understand some of the concepts in this book. I am a revert to Islam, and not a student of philosophy, so I struggled to comprehend some of the concepts. Overall, I think it is very informative and a good read for an experienced reader.

I came across Al Ghazali's name by reading another book on Sufism. This is my first book I read from him and so far I am greatly impressed. As a Christian and spiritual searcher I have the theoretical aspects of my religion well established but I always fell short in the practical aspect of it. I don't mean the going to church or going through the empty rituals, I mean the nitty gritty spiritual work and closeness to God. Al Ghazali, peace be on him, has changed all that. This book has made me drastically change little by little my orientation in life towards what is important, the worship of God in a direct, singleminded devotion. He not only helps you find the hidden treasure in the field but impels you to " sell everything" so you can buy the field and acquire the treasure. His words hit you hard especially if they are accepted with humility and not with a mind ready to find faults in his teachings. He helps you move from the intellectual level of your religion, whichever it might be, to the true meaning of religion, a life lived "in" God and "through" God. This book, although written by a Sufi master, and although it expounds Islam, will bring a luminous clarity to any Christian serious enough in their search for God. It's really a jewel and I cannot recommend it enough. If you are a Muslim this book is a most have in your library. Praise and thanks to God for bringing this book to my life!

really intriguing and knowledge filled

A must read to fully grasp the complexity of our existence in this life and why it is of importance to have the steadfastness of disciplining the ego (outer shell) and finding balance of the heart (spirit). Abdul Hakim Murad is a learned man by the grace of God to be able to share his advices and insights of one of the pillars of Islamic scholastics, Ghazali.

I loved the book. It was delivered on time and in excellent condition. THe price was great and will order more book in the future. I will definitely recommend this book to others due to its dire need in these time. We are going through changes that are sometime difficult to cope and adjust to . THis book gives you ways to tend to your spiritual side in order to overcome the obstacles that come your way.

This is an incredible book. This book does a great job in decribing the science behind building good character and advancing your spiritual state. This is a must read for anyone looking to advance themselves spirtually.
