Q: Do I have to have generator ‘floating neutral’?

Good question! Ideally a generator with a floating neutral works best, but some generator companies support the un-bonding of the neutral when used with a transfer switch in the residential setting. Q: The wattmeters appear to only measure 6 of the 10 circuts (A, B, C, D, E, F), leaving out the other 4 (G, H, I, J). Are those 4 excluded from meter?

I have the 10 circuit switch. My LH meter (at the bottom) is labeled A-E. The RH meter is labeled F-J. My installation and operating instructions says that "the left meter measures the load on A,B,C,D and E" and that "the right meter measures the load on F,G, H, I and J". In other words, all circuits are measured.If you just have a 6 circuit switch, A,B & C are on the LH, D,E, & F are RH. For an 8 circuit switch, A,B,C,& D are LH, E, F, G & H are RH.Hope that answers your question.

Not an expert but each switch on the transfer switch has a circuit breaker/reset max 20 amps. You can get 240 v. by combining two circuits. Also circuit will have the circuit breaker on the house panel so essentially each circuit has two potential trip switches. Current flow is from the hot wire red wire I think in the main panel panel circuit breaker to the transfer switch 2nd circuit breaker to the house circuit black wire. This set up isolates the line voltage from the generator voltage depending on how the switch on the transfer switch is set. Quite easy to set up. Just a matter of what circuits are critical and obviously load limits. I think 30 amps represents the maximum total load that the panel can handle even though individual circuits may be able to handle up to 20 amps.

Q: Why is this so much more expensive than the Connecticut Electric one?

Don’t know. But it is a good unit.
