Q: Will this vent mount on to a 4" PVC pipe?

I was using a 3" ABS pipe with a Fernco adapter. The adapter had a 1/4" wall thickness which fit snugly inside the 4" ducting on the ventilator. A Schedule 40 4" PVC pipe at 4 1/2" OD will be too large, but it might fit inside the PVC pipe.

Q: What about when it rains hard. Does water leak in?

Haven’t experienced that problem. The turbine sits over the outside of the pipe. And if it’s raining real hard it’s probably windy and the turbine is spinning to block yhe rain coming in. I’ve had this style now for 12 years without issue.

Q: I want to install this on the roof of a sheet metal building, it is to protect my swimming pool pump and chimecals. how would you mount this on roof.

If you are going to ventilate a shed or metal building dont forget a passive vent down low or on a wall to allow air in when the door is closed.

Q: will this fit over a 4 inch throat?

Depends on the outside diameter of the pipe you are using. The base of the ventilator is pretty close to 4" ID, so it won't fit well on a pipe with a 4.25" or 4.5" OD. We did get it to fit on a Sched 40 PVC pipe, but it was really tight. You might need an adapter, or the collar they sell, to get it to fit on a pipe that is much more than 4" outside diameter. DO NOT install the ventilator with the base INSIDE the pipe or a coupler... that will allow rainwater to drip / flow inside the pipe and into your building. The base of the ventilator has to be over the OUTSIDE of the stack pipe.
