Handy clamp with a long reach when you need it
Ideal for when you need to reach a long way to clamp something. As a retired engineer, I have never seen a G clamp with such a deep throat, despite much searching over the years. Don't expect too much, as with such a deep throat and a relatively slender frame it won't take too much clamping force and has quite a lot of give. It could do with being more robust, which would make it worth the extra star, but that would come at a cost. For the price it is good value and the finish is quite adequate and good. The rolled square thread is well made, but works a lot better with a bit of lubrication, and the swivel clamping pad is nicely made, but has very limited tilt for clamping over non-parallel surfaces. The clamping anvil could also do with more upstand to reach over any protruding ridges. Update of November 2013 Now the price has dropped, from £12 to £8, these clamps are now a real bargain. I have been very pleased with my two clamps and now thinking of getting another one. Extra note May 2014 Bought two of these as birthday/Christmas presents for a relative who is a carpenter and he is very pleased with them, as he often needs clamps that reach a long way.

A very useful tool for repairs
The great thing with this particular cramp is the great depth of the jaws, allowing me to reach deeper across say the top of a box lid or a chest of drawers that's having the wood veneer repaired and do a bit of localised cramping. It's one of those tools that is useful in many ways for the restorer / woodworker. But not something I've seen in DIY stores so I was glad to find someone selling them on here! So far, and I've owned a pair of these for 6 months - so they have had plenty of use, I've found them strong and useful, with no problems.

Inexpensive and really good quality.
These really are the business! I'm sure there are much more expensive versions around, but these clamp as well as anything would or could. They were put straight to use after delivery (along with several other smaller clamps) clamping 3 sheets of ply together. Good reach and a smooth thread to tighten with a good size bar for leverage. There is a tendency for this width clamp to dip on one side as you tighten, so either don't over do it but if it is necessary to tighten a lot, put a pice of wood under the side of the clamp that has 'dipped' so you don't damage the item you're working on.

Strong clamps
Well built not much flexing

Great long reach G Clamps
A bit expensive but essential when joining wood due to its very long reach

Shoddy quality control.
Basically, a very useful tool due to it's deep reach. However... Very poor quality of production. The bottom clamping anvil was cast skewed, ie horizontally a couple of degrees from the horizontal, & not even flat, so that the self-centring screw foot was never either flat, or correctly aligned vertically, a vital requirement for the action of any clamp. Initially I was very disappointed for a tool of this expense, & apparently good pedigree. The cure was to file the anvil flat, & into correct alignment, which necessitated the anvil being below the level of the casting. To raise the now level surface above the casting, I fashioned a 6mm thick tuffnol washer and araldited it to to the now flat surface to make a new, accurate anvil. This now works fine. Fortunately I am an experienced engineer. To put another criticism to rights, the casting is cast or malleable iron, NOT "Monkey Metal" as was elsewhere stated in a Review. A possibly useful tip to increase the load on this very leveraged clamp is to put another clamp across the arms of the deep-throat clamp as far as possible towards the clamping point. To get a stable & gentle pressure on this second clamp, it is necessary to make two little Vshaped wooden blocks, one top, one under, to straddle the T-section of the deep-throat clamp. DO NOT over-tighten the second clamp, its only there to stop any deflection in the casting when the deep-throat clamp is nipped. Be gentle, & it is a useful adjunct to your clamp collection.. I'm sure any normal person would however have sent the original clamp back as unusable.
