Not fit for purpose
A waste of money. Although the radio is quite good this product can best be described as truly "retro" ( i,e. The technology employed is early 20th. century!) The quality and operation of the switches is cheap and amateurish, indeed the AM/FM switch looks as though it was found in a cheap Christmas cracker.. The loop/auto reverse switch works in the opposite way to the instruction leaflet. The Fast Forward and Reverse switches are marked in the opposite way to convention and good nails or a tiny screwdriver are required to operate the almost concealed Tape/Radio switch. My main criticism is reserved for the recording system. The record level seems to be linked to the volume control. When recording from radio even with the volume at maximum the recorded sound could barely be heard above the hiss of the amplifier. With the volume control at half level no sound is recorded. The built-in microphone is so insensitive ( or the pre-amplifier is so inadequate ) that the recorded sound struggled to compete with the background hiss. Either BUSH are content to produce low quality products or they are not testing this item before dispatch. I suggest prospective buyers look elsewhere for something that does a proper job.

great product in its own way
This is a great product, the radio works well although at first 2 attempts I am only able to get 2 stations, recording on cassette is another matter: I have used many of these portable cassette recorders and on the plus side this machine does not make great noises when one stops recording, I give an example ….I bought this machine to record short notes and for this purpose, this recorder is fine, so if I record one thing and then stop the recording and then record something else, I can hardly hear the cassette stopping between the 2 recordings ….By the way as far as I know this machine does not feature the Pause button but has the reverse button, a function that nowadays I have not found in any portable cassette player/recorder, it is particularly useful during playback, if one is listening to side A and wants to switch to side B without the need to open the cassette compartment and turning the cassette over. If I can share one trick … depends on what you want to record, for better quality I suggest that, if you are the one recording your own notes, get as much ‘nasality’ as possible because the sound is more resonant and is clearer especially if like me, at some point you need to transcribe your notes.Overall considering the price and what it offers, this product is very good …. I hope it lasts!

MONO NOT STEREO
At time of this review the description is wrong. The Radio is MONO ONLY, the Tape is MONO ONLY. The recordings are MONO ONLY. There is a lot of motor noise interference that comes through when playing tapes as well. If all you require is MONO sound then go for it, for the money it is ok.

Built in Speaker!!!
I’ve been wanting a cassette player for a while and this product is amazing! The fact that it doubles as a radio is a cool feature too. Easy to use and quite lightweight and isn’t too big so fits on my bed frame and looks cute stood up!
