Q: Why is this advertiser allowed to say 12 Pieces in the headline and the description then states 'box contains 1 stick' ???

presumably it's a box of 12 bulk order for Barbers, but the price is for one individual, that's all I can think of, perhaps Email the vendor.

Q: Specified dimensions make no sense (item is bigger than package). What is the actual diameter? Will it fit my (very) old holder?

As i don't know the dimensions of the holder i can't tell,however it's soft and pliable so you could mold into a pot it's good shaving soap you choose well

You just place the order for the pieces you require i.e. if it's 1 you get on,if it'd 12 you get 12.It's good shaving soap and i live in a hard water area and lathers well.

Q: How are these sticks individually wrapped… paper or plastic?

I bought these for a friend's 87th birthday. He can't remember what the wrapping was but the scent was distinctive (very nice) which I don't think would be so obvious with plastic wrapping.
