Good Unit, but reservations on the costs of Sound Bars/Bases.
I bought this unit to try and improve the dialogue clarity(especially in movies) for my wife whose hearing is poor, notwithstanding my LCD Samsung flat TV has pretty good Clear Voice and Amplify Modes but mediocre Music and Movie Modes.PROS.1.A simple sturdy, attractive ,rectangular design with all rear connections recessed for safety.2. Any TV with a stand up to 24" x 12" will fit comfortably atop the sound base- or you can mount it on its own shelf.3. Set up is very easy, although you need to mute or set your TV speakers to "external source."4. The small remote fits neatly in the hand, and each function can be programmed/set by using the installation button on the sound base.5. Any Sky or TV remote control can be likewise programmed to duplicate the functions of the unit's remote- so you can then dispense with the latter, if wished.6. The Dialogue Mode does improve that of your TV- but not massively. NB. It depends obviously on the sound quality of your particular TV.7. The Movie Mode is particularly good, if you want the vibrant, thudding sounds that movies offer(utilising all the unit's speakers). The other mode (Music) is OK for music only.CONS.1. There is no light to indicate the mode being used, but switching modes briefly lights up Dialogue (2 lights); Music (4 lights); Movie (8 lights) in sequence on the front of the unit. Hence, when you switch you know which mode you are engaging next- and therefore the one you have just cancelled.2. Both co-axial and analogue leads are provided, but there is NO OPTICAL LEAD as described by Amazon. This is the best option and one can be purchased for £4.95 (Cable Mountain) on Amazon.3.Music and Movie Modes vary little for ordinary programmes.4.Changing from Dialogue Mode to Movie/Music mode invariably results in a much louder volume. A very minor niggle.CONCLUSION.The unit performs well overall but, given the good sound quality of my Samsung TV, the improvement is not tremendous. The Movie Mode offers the most for those who want all the various sounds of an action film- and it comes across as a "pseudo surround."Note that the Dialogue level does not drop in the Music and Movie Modes, although the other sounds may drown it out a little. If you buy it, I don't think you'll be disappointed, but I question whether any Sound Base/Bar is worth £200.00- bearing in mind my excellent Samsung Smart TV can be bought for not much more.

Useful improvement over TV sound, but not HiFi or "home cinema". As for Amazon's international delivery, Basil Fawltyesque!
Follow up: initial disappointment has grown. Restricted sound stage means a very narrow and close listening window, outside of which vibrancy and clarity drops off quickly. It does not compare well with soundbars I have since heard, and regret not having bought a matching Samsung soundbar (for my Samsung Tv).The Speaker Base is perfectly adequate for what it sets out to do. It is a significant sound improvement over the sound from my 5 series Samsung 40in LED tv (though frankly it doesn’t take much). It produces plenty of volume, reasonable base and a somewhat restricted sound field. This is not "home cinema" nor was I expecting such, but still a wee bit disappointed.A black plastic box without much in the way of aesthetics, it is structurally sound and strong enough to support any modern flat panel TV (say up to 50 in). There is adequate connectivity to meet its design function, ie to take a digital output from your TV and produce a better sound than from the TV's speakers. It connected and streamed from my iphone & ipad via Bluetooth without difficulty. If you have multiple HDMI sources, the "hub" is your TV, not the device. You simply select the TV video source on the TV and the sound is sent via the optical digital connector to the Denon (having turned the built in TV speakers off). Annoyingly the Speaker Base does not have a line level analogue audio out to drive wireless headphones which strikes me as a penny pinching omission. The controls on the box, replicated on the reasonable remote, are again adequate if basic, but then do you need more? The ability of the unit to learn the remote control functions from say your cable remote is useful, in allowing, for example, the volume control of you cable box to change the volume on the base. By virtue of an annoying quirk of the Samsung, I ended up teaching my cable box remote the volume up/down from the Base remote. How obtrusive the Speaker Base is depends on the height of the table top stand of your TV. I found the extra height from the Base adds an annoying extra height to the TV, an extra height that would be avoided by a sound bar.Summarising; it does what its supposed to, simply. Just be certain that that is ultimately what you want.As for Amazon: 2 Orders which were never even sent to the couriers, and a third order which ultimately got to me in spite of the utter rubbish sprouted to me by their support centres in Philippines and Caribbean (but a very nice chap in Ireland). At least they ultimately waived the international carriage cost, and on the third try sent by international priority. As for the 2 failed dispatches one remains, after 5 weeks "in transit" even though I have been refunded the cost, and the second is showing "reordered, awaiting return", that for an order that was never dispatched (though I asked for and got an email confirming that no return was actually expected).
