Pure Original Ingredients, Ammonium Bicarbonate Treated, 2 Lb

I started dosing NH3 in my reef tank instead of NO3. I use this ammonium bicarbonate to make a stock solution and it works great. I LOVE the fact that it's food grade, so that means the purity is there so I'm not adding unknown things to my reef.

Worked very well. Just be careful with the ammonia smell. Can be a bit overwhelming so use ventilation.

finally some real baking soda

I bought this to try in a couple of recipes after seeing it in the ingredient list for one of my favorite store-bought shortbread cookies. The smell is VERY strong when you open the bag and while you're cooking. If the cookie is too thick or if you use too much, some of the smell remains after cooking. I couldn't tell any benefit in crispiness, so I probably won't use the rest of the bag or get it again, unless I find a recipe where it really makes a difference.

Not that bicarbonate seems like a thing that could ever get a mediocre review... But it did exactly what I needed for baking. No problems at all with flavor or consistency. Amazingly glad to have found this as the price on Amazon is way better than in grocery stores and this is weirdly hard to come by in American stores if you like to bake European recipes. Really pleased with the quantity, too.

I’ve been making Springerle (a traditional German cookie) every Christmas for almost forty years. Friends and family look forward to them. I’ve tried using other types of leavening agents, but nothing works like baker’s ammonia. The dough is easier to roll, the pictures are clearer and the cookies have a better texture. I buy the large bag so I can share since baker’s ammonia is hard to find around here.

The quality of this baker’s ammonium is very disappointing. When I received it, the outer package had a few stains, which was not a big issue. The real problem is that after opening it, I found the powder had clumped into hard chunks of various sizes, extremely solid, which clearly shows a quality issue. It seems like it was exposed to moisture. Unfortunately, it cannot be returned, which is quite frustrating. I had to place another order, hoping the quality will be better this time.
