How much the jaw open ?

Mine opens 2 5/8". But only really useable at about 2 1/4" unless you have large hands. Pricey ? Yes. But worth it.

Do these have the smooth or textured grips?

There is a slight texture on the grips. (not smooth). These pliers are made well and thought has been built into them.

What does the measurement actualy mean?

It is the overall length of the pliers.
