Convenient but not worth the hype
My previous experience of air fryers was not pleasant, as a support worker for a disabled man, who insisted on everything being cooked in the air fryer. I found it neither quicker, easier and disgusting to use as none of his other support workers cleaned it out after use, resulting in me wasting more time cleaning it before and after use. For this reason I have avoided air fryers and put them down to being the latest fad but then I noticed that a few of my friends had them and as an "empty nester" I felt that putting the oven on just for me was both costly and wasteful. So I spent hours in stores and online trying to work out which one would be best for me. I thought I'd go small and cheap so that if I didn't use it I could pass it on to my daughter, and I didn't want to clutter up my kitchen with a useless gadget. I decided on this model because it was half price and Tower seemed to have the widest range of options. I also liked the idea of two different sized drawers, as I use the smaller one for things like bacon or warming pies and the larger one for cooking previously frozen cottage pies or lasagnes or for when I'm cooking for the family. Like everybody else, first uses are a bit hit and miss and needs practice. My first use was on sausages which were leathery and the mash went cold waiting for them to cook. It is definitely quicker than using the oven but I can't say it's saved me any money in terms of electricity. I've purchased silicone liners which are a big bonus as they are quick to rinse and I've only washed the actual drawers once or twice and they too are easy to rinse and wipe. I've also downloaded and oven - air fryer cooking convertor which as averted the timing disasters. What cooks well? Steak is really juicy, chips are crispy as are pastry products. I haven't plucked up the courage to try baking a cake yet, as I don't want to waste time and ingredients on getting it wrong. I think air fryer is a misnomer as it is an oven or grill. It's better than the microwave becasue you can use metal containers but I wouldn't part with the microwave or my oven hob, although the rest of the oven is now pretty much redundant. I've been using it 3-4 times a week for two months now and yes I have found it quick, easy and convenient, especially after coming in from work. I hope this is a useful review, if, like me, you're dithering whether to join the masses and buy one.

Great Product
After buying two different same range items, found this and must admit definitely well worth the price. Not high range but definitely a good air fryer, easy to clean and does well what it’s supposed to do

Easy to use
Good quality, good size and easy to use. I only use the temperature and time settings (never used any of the presets). The button that controls both drawers finishing at the same time is very useful.

Makes cooking for the family so easy
I absolutely love this air fryer. Since it arrived 3 days ago I have cooked frozen samosas and spring rolls, baked an omelette in it for a family lunch and cooked a Sunday roast 1.5kg chicken with homemade parmentier potatoes. I researched different sizes of air fryer and went for this one as we are a family of 3 (2 adults and a 10 year old) . I would say that this is perfect for us as going any larger would be double the price and an issue with counter space in the kitchen. The roast chicken fitted the larger basket perfectly, though next time I'll tie it up or spatchcock it a bit as it increased in size as it cooked so the skin started to burn on the heating element and I had to turn it over early. The chicken also only took an hour to cook at 180 degrees (usually it's 90 minutes in the oven with a 10 minute preheat) and was perfect and the potatoes weren't bad for my first ever attempt. Everyone liked the omelette and the spring rolls came out lovely and crispy. Clean-up with the roast chicken was a breeze as I purchased some pricey but perfectly fitting dishwasher safe silicone inserts which have grooves large enough to let the fat run off (I wipe them with a bit of kitchen roll and stick them in the dishwasher). With no need for preheating and shorter cooking times this air fryer has got to be saving us some money on bills and I love how easy it is to adjust cooking times and temperatures and to check on the food. I really appreciate how it synchronises both drawers to finish at the same time if needed, that it stops cooking when you pull out a drawer then continues the timed cook when you slide it back in, all of which make it easy to get good results. I think it is great value for money compared to similar sized machines and having one large and one smaller drawer is great for us. I was also very lucky to get an amazon warehouse deal with a lot of money off due to a damaged box but I see that they are currently for sale new at around the same price that I paid. There was one small negative that the machine smelled of burnt plastic when I first started using it, even though I had carefully washed the drawers before use. However I followed some advice I found online to run it for 10 minutes at 200 degrees whilst empty. I did this twice which resolved the issue and now it doesn't emit any odour at all. Update: I have been using the T17088 for about 6 weeks and have since found some pros and cons. I still think that it is great, it's brilliant at cooking meat and it has inspired me to cook more interesting meals. As such I highly recommend the Tower Vortx recipe book which is a free download from their website and the book 'Slimming Eats' by Siobhan Wightman which is free on Kindle Unlimited. The cons are that apart from meat it never cooks in the time listed. For example, I made the Caribbean prawn and pineapple skewers with coconut rice this evening. The skewers were great but the coconut rice wasn't cooked at all and needed finishing off in the microwave with my Sistema rice cooker. My omelettes still turn out runny and need cooking at a lower temperature for longer or finishing off in the microwave. Unlike many air fryers you also need to parboil chips beforehand as described in the Tower Vortx recipe book. Homemade wedges cook better if you put the cut wedges in ice water for 30 minutes to remove the starch before cooking. Frozen chips and wedges, in fact any frozen foods, cook extremely well and pastry goods like sausage rolls are delicious - better than oven cooked ones. Essentially this air fryer supplements the oven rather than totally replacing it unless you're a meat and 2 veg fan or someone who mostly cooks frozen convenience foods like breaded meat and fish. I'm still pretty happy with it but I'm aware it has quirks. It was worth it for a first machine as I use it several times a week but now that I know I like air frying I would consider upgrading to a better machine like a Ninja at the end of the Tower Vortx Eco's lifespan. One tip is that I find it sometimes cooks more evenly if I elevate the included 'shelf' insert in the drawer with a very small bowl underneath it so that the air can circulate fully around the food. Further update: still love this air fryer months later. The smaller dual size means I'm usually juggling racks around or cooking in 2 batches but it's still brilliant. Mini quiches baked today (put them on a tin to go in the fridge) and only a 10 min pastry pre-bake then a 20 min bake at 170. I have lots of accessories which help me stack the food in the small drawers and love the large silicone muffin cases. I made mini toad-in-the-holes last week and they came out beautifully risen.
