Q: how do i get the top off inorder to put the straw top on? i understand i have to screw it off but how do i detach it from bottle.

Before you use the straw lid with straw, you should take out the flex cap. The flex cap is held on by a plastic loop around the neck of the bottle. You can pull the loop to angle it and slide it right off. And you can take it out.

I have just ordered from Amazon. The wide mouth is pretty much the same for all hydro. I have not ordered one that did not fit, some I like better then others.

Q: Does the water smell when it's in the bottle for a day?

All stainless flask water bottles need to be cleaned often. Hot water rinse every day is basic. A little white vinegar in hot water is a better cleaner and best is a bleach water rinse. In the summer you will have to rinse the bottle more often. I have used a 64 oz Hydroflask for 10 years and you just have to remember to clean them. I replace the straw lid every 2 months or so. Also remember to clean the straw lid with the supplied brush under hot water. I recommend buying a flask cleaning brush to scrub the inside. Bacteria tends to build up at the bottom of the flask, around the cap seal and where the straw attaches to the cap.
