Hycote Under Body Aerosol Car Spray Paint, 400 ml

Me and my husband run a local car club.Our club is full of enthusiasts and as you can imagine car care is a big part of our daily lives and there are endless discussions about how to treat,cure or prevent any rust/corrosion appearing in the first place. Our cars are not new and in fact many in the club are anything but so rust is an ongoing issue that we all have sadly, and in some cases the cars have lost their fight against it and succumbed resulting in hundreds of pounds worth of bodywork and repairs being done. When you are facing bills that start from the hundreds and run into the thousands of pounds you are dedicated to finding and trying pretty much every product out there that can stop, treat or prevent rust coming in the first place.This is one of the best and certainly handiest products we have come across for protecting the underneath of your car against the dirt, salt and grit on the roads that lead our cars and other vehicles to rust because lets face it, even with the best intention you cannot get in every nook and cranny when you wash the car. Therefor this, and products like it are essential to the car body maintenance of keeping the rust at bay and giving the underside some protection..... This spray gives your underside a layer of special protection (type of underseal) that will help fight off the chemicals and salt your car will come across and prevent the rust appearing or taking hold on anything it is sprayed with. Generally my husband has always used hammorite underseal for the car but when you are dealing with the little nooks and crannies, getting behind tiny gaps etc using that and a paint brush is not an easy task!! Being a fan of Hycote sprays in general we thought we would give this a try. The spray itself is easy to use and comes out with a good mist spray that is even and this is why i love Hycote, their sprays are always good at producing a good even spray without lots of splutters and droplet/runs which is vital. It does just what it says on the tin, cover your designated area with it and it will get the protection it needs, if there is rust already there be sure to remove and kill that first of course. With going underneath the car itself and not being lucky enough to have a pit etc for use it is as always with most aerosols advisable to wear a ventilator mask, most aerosols are fine with an ffp2 grade , remember you are going to be pretty close to it and its not exactly the sort of stuff you want to be breathing in at close range! Another good idea is to wear protective glasses to protect against any mist spray that may fall as you spray. Just follow the basics and off you go, simple and easy to use!! We actually bought this a while ago and havent done a review till the actual product had long enough on the car to take hold and we could judge if it actually did as it says, but as far as we are aware, and the husband is always around cars...it is doing its job so i can honestly recommend this as a way to keep your little baby safe and rust free ;) Added info, most cars come undersealed as standard but it does need replacing every few years in order to keep rust at bay.If your car is an import it may not have been undersealed because of the country of origins roads and weathers.It is therefor advisable to underseal the whole of the underneath of the car and inner arches etc in order to prevent any corrosion and give your car body life a longer lifespan ...

I used this to spray the underside of my new petrol lawn mower with a metal base. It leaves a perfect coating that will prevent your lawn mower steel base ever rotting out. Ensure you change your mower engine oil each and every year or even twice yearly ( they all use about 600 ml of oil and basic 10w40 engine oil will do fine that's about £10 for 4 litres so will last years ) Take these two precautions and the mower will last forever and never rot away either.

I bought this to paint a car subframe that I'd sanded back to bare metal. No primer needed. It's a large frame, but there is plenty in 2 x 400ml cans to cover it. I found it a bit tricky to apply as the can is designed to spray upwards - with the frame in place under the car. Mine was off the car, so spraying it downwards was tricky, especially when it ran low (you have to tip the can further). It comes out of the can really fast and bubbles way more than conventional paint. So it's easy to apply too much. The result wasn't that pretty, but the coverage is excellent and will protect the metal really well. Someone with painting skills would likely get a good finish.

Works well and does what I wanted

My van is still full but doesn’t spray any more. I barely got any out before it clogged up. I shamed it, put upside down cleaned the tip and everything it says to do on the can to do but it don’t work. Hopefully it’s just a faulty can and I’m just unlucky but that’s all I have to go on.

Whilst my car has been in bits being rebushed i have taken the opportunity to clean the arches and give them a coat of protection. On one side i began to use tetroseal underbody protection and applying it with a paint brush was pretty much impossible. It looked bloody awful and sagged after application. I scraped all of that stuff off and applied two coats of this under body paint. Only took ten minutes to paint and it gets in every even the awkward spots. It has left a nice sheen and a lovely finish. Two cans was more than enough to coat the rear arch area of my honda S2000. Great product

I did 3 or 4 light coats which dried enough to prevent it dripping on my head and has great coverage. The nozzle has been designed to spray upwards which is ideal. I wore a mask and goggles as I was under my RV and the fumes are quite strong. Good quality.

Messy stuff but does the job. Nozzle flows well, although it points upward which can be awkward at times. Sticks well, will wait and see how this fares in a few years time.
