Solid product, excellent customer service
For those looking for a sleek and moderately secure long gun cabinet and not trying to spend a fortune or install an overly bulky and conspicuous piece of furniture in an apartment I do not think you can beat this product from V-Line. It’s not really a “safe” and not the most secure option out there, but for the price and if you only need a moderate deterrent to theft or to keep the kids out this will do the job. Especially if you live in a secure building where a thief is unlikely to break in or unlikely to want to spend much time making noise busting into this cabinet. Mount it behind a door or under a piece of furniture and more than likely an intruder won’t even spot it. We live on the second floor of a gated building and our door is highly visible to our neighbors, so this is a “just in case” investment for us. If you are a home owner or rent in a less secure apartment building you probably want to go with something that is closer to impenetrable, which this case is not. That being said it is solidly built and made in the US!Pros- Made in USA- Slim profile. Can fit under any bed frame that sits at least six inches off the ground or easily mounted discreetly in a closet or behind a door.- Can be mounted to a wall (suggest mounting into studs or concrete, not drywall) or floor. No mounting hardware included but you will have to get whatever suits your individual needs anyway.- Simplex lock means you don’t have to rely on batteries.- Two tubular key locks for added security.- Easy to reset the numeric combination.- Combination can include pressing multiple numbers at once.- Includes anti-corrosion pad for interior of safe, which is a nice little bonus.- Foam lining inside fits perfectly.- Can potentially fit two long guns depending on how you position them. For myself it holds an M1A Scout rifle with scope and 10 round mag (thanks California) and a Remington 870 Tactical 12 gauge. Probably would not hold two ARs with attachments and with mags inserted. If you need this for quick access to your home defense gun would advise keeping only one in the cabinet as quickly removing one could easily knock the second out onto the floor.- Excellent customer service! My safe somehow came without the keys for the tubular locks. I thought I would have to drag this thing down to UPS and ship it back and get a new one, but first I called V-Line and they immediately overnighted new tubular locks and keys for me. Changing the locks was not difficult. I want to give a shout out to their friendly and helpful representative Michelle who not only rushed the new locks to me but also helped walk me through the numeric combination reset over the phone.Cons- So it’s definitely pretty solid and once mounted no one is carrying it off too easily, but I can see how a motivated thief could get into the cabinet with a little effort and a pry bar, but it would be a noisy task. I don’t need quick access to these particular firearms so I will always be using the combination and the tubular locks for added protection.- Interior velcro strap that secures your weapon could be thicker and stickier I guess. I would really prefer an adjustable elastic strap with clips and the option to reposition it in the case but honestly with two firearms inside there isn’t much wiggle room for them to slide around anyway, so this is a minor nitpick.- If you live in California this is sadly not a DOJ certified safe.TL;DRModerately secure, discreet profile, easily mountable, can potentially store two guns, great customer service, not DOJ rated for California.

The best quick access long gun secure storage I'm aware of
I've looked at quite a number of products for secure but quickly accessible firearms storage, and I came to the conclusion that the simplex style locks are probably the best available lock type for this application as they are reasonably secure, quick and simple to access including in the dark and/or under stress, and reliable. I personally would not trust anything with an electronic lock for any firearm I keep for defensive purposes. Many of the locking mechanisms on competing quick access "safes" are pretty insecure, google deviant ollam's video "safe to armed in seconds" although to be fair he doesn't review any simplex type lock products. Finally, the configurability of the simplex combinations, which have the option of including multiple buttons at a time, gives the user the option of choosing a more simple code or a more complicated one depending on need (i.e. if you don't have kids and thus don't need much security, you could make a very simple one or two button press "combination").This container is reasonably well constructed and size wise provides a good balance of interior space vs. compactness. It easily fits an AR style carbine w/ red dot optic with enough room for a holstered handgun, a few mags, backup flashlight etc. It would similarly fit a typical defensive type shotgun (i.e. 18-20" barrel). Security wise keep in mind any of these quick access safes are intended mainly to keep guns out of unauthorized hands (i.e. children, or an intruder from quickly accessing your gun) for the purposes of preventing an accident, they are a compromise between security and the ability to access quickly, and consequently they are not high security "safes" designed to prevent theft although if bolted down would be much better than nothing. As far as I know, for long guns, this is the best product I'm aware of currently on the market. For handguns, I prefer the FAS1 product which utilizes the same simplex style Illinois lock but is much more solidly constructed. I own both products and I consider it a big advantage that both use the same lock type (I have them programmed with the same combo). 5 because I think this is the best product out there, although the construction is good but not great. I'd love to see a better constructed FAS1 type product in this size, although it would be significantly heavier and more expensive (which is why I don't deduct a star, for the price I think this is as good a product as one can reasonably expect).edit: While this is still a good product, since writing this review I became aware of some other long gun storage options w/ simplex style locks. If I were buying now, I would take a close look at the product called the shot lock, which has a similar (maybe identical) illinois style lock and is available for various long guns including an AR or most shotguns. If you needed the ability for one product to lock up either an AR or shotgun, this v-line would still probably be the best choice (the shot lock is specific for one vs. the other). Leaving this v-line as 5 stars as it's still a great product, just wanted to qualify that "best I am aware of" comment in my title.

Overpriced for what it is...
Overpriced for what it is. I purchased it to keep unauthorized people (Read: Children) away from my shotgun, yet have it readily accessible. It does that. It should NOT be confused with an anti-theft "safe" - as it could be pried open in a few seconds. That's the tradeoff one must make to have a weapon readily accessible yet stored safely - without having to resort to expensive and unreliable electronic locks.

Clever design and discrete package.
I like this gun safe for the following reasons: slim profile, secure locks, quick access using the mechanical lock that will not fail when you need it, and reasonable price. I have 2 of them now and use them to store firearms. The mechanical lock is very quick to open and has never failed me (unlike bio-metric fingerprint locks), it also never needs batteries. I dry fire practice a lot with my Mantis X3 so having quick access is very helpful. The liner helpful keeping your firearms from scratching. I use magnets around the edge of mine to hold the pistols that I am using that month. Keeps everything neatly organized and secure. I've researched other safes and found this one offered the best ability to locate anywhere, looks discrete and because it's not a traditional safe many not give it a second glance. The metal frame has mounting holes and with the addition of magnets it can become more flexible/utilitarian to fit your needs.

Solid rifle storage
I’m keeping my Ruger AR 556 in this locker under the sofa in my family room. This provides quick access to heavy fire power. The cabinet is very sturdy and the lock is reliable and fast to open.I prefer to keep my weapons distributed throughout the house so I always have one at hand rather than one big safe in the basement. I think it makes it harder to steal them too. These cases are a great way to do that.

Excellent Quality
I was extremely pleased with the quality of this safe ! I have owned more expensive safes with electronic “Quick Access” that aren’t as quick to access as this simple but secure mechanism. And the fact that its 100% Mechanical is a massive bonus !Made in the USA to boot, i honestly couldn’t have asked for a better long gun safe.

It's a good safe for people just getting into the A/R market
It's a good safe for people just getting into the A/R market. Secure and heavy enough to withstand any mediocre attempts to break into it. The inside could be made a bit better. It is good but doesn't provide any real support for the rifle other than a velcro strap. For the money it's a great way to stay legal in Canada and still have semi quick access to the rifle. The mechanical lock operates smoothly and can be set up to open in a second.

Not really a "safe"
The lock didn't work properly. Had to disassemble it and make tiny adjustments. Not the type of procedure I would recommend for most but I'm good at repairing things so I did it. Still, I shouldn't have had to repair it in the first place. Other than that, the safe is ok. And I mean ok at best. The metal is quite thin. This safe is not "safe". If I was an intuder I would be able to get into this safe with very little difficulty. I would just drill a hole in the sheet metal and use tin snips to cut a big enough hole in the door to pull the contents out. For that reason, I give it 2 stars
