Essential, irresistible entertainment. Sublime and genuinely thrilling. First class masterpieces.
Five gold stars, baby! The original is beyond words but just to say/type it's possibly the best comedy ever made. Ever. But since I've already reviewed the blu ray of ghostbusters thus review is for the much maligned sequel which, IMHO, I think is worth five gold stars all on its own. This might not be the popular opinion but I liked the sequel as much as the original. What the sequel lacks that the original had (namely that epic model building/real life skyscraper and the rather disturbing, for a PG, armchair sequence) this film makes up for with a more fleshed out role for Ernie Hudson aka my favourite ghostbuster and more for the wonderful Annie Potts to do. Also what's good here is the always watchable and lovely Sigourney Weaver here returning as the female lead/damsel in distress. Hers is a performance that makes the film. In addition David Margulies returns as the exasperated mayor of New York City and he's just as good here as he was in the first film. Also adding to the entertainment value is a brief cameo from Harris Yulin as a cranky judge who almost gets his just desserts. The only downside here is a returning Rick Moranis who is insufferably irritating but it's a small wrinkle in an otherwise epic sequel. And if all of the above wasn't enough that guy from Ally McBeal is a hoot and a half as a creepy museum curator who has designs on Dana. And there's some truly magnificent visuals to boot. Look out for Philip Baker Hall in a tiny one line cameo and also Ben Stein, similarly outfitted. Finally Mary Ellen Trainor appears at the beginning as a mom who hires Winston and Ray. Oh, I probably should have mentioned at the start I am a sequel whore. And in my opinion this is one of the best sequels ever made. Subtitles for HOH / SDH are available.

Ivan Reitman, Harold Tami's and Dan Akroyd channelling insane amounts of humour from ghost stories.
It's no secret that one of the most traditional harbingers of Ghost Stories was the Bible, as referenced in the scheme of Gozer, and mentioning Hittites, Babylonians and Mesopotamians, whom the Jews and Muslim Persians wiped out in the Bible. So many jump scared, the beautiful shining beings of Poltergeist, etc. transmogrified into demonic personages, and Who You Gonna Call? This is still one of my many highlights of the eighties. The performances are cool, Sigourney Weaver is always good as eye candy, but at least she wasn't chased by huge biomechanical insectile snakey monster from Alien, the Saturnine devil. No, she was just possessed and turned into a devil dog after shagging Rick Moranis, to call forth Gozer the Gozerian. Peter MacNicol somewhat stole the show in the second one, since Sigourney Weaver couldn't quite suspend her disbelief and came across rather jaded about the whole affair. But both films were really great and wet-you-pants-with-laughter funny.

Ghostly Fun and Games.
I did see the two films in the cinema when they were first released and the fact is these movies does not work on the small screen. A huge 15 foot walking sugar man does not look so dramatic when it is in a 14inch TV screen. Having covered that the jokes are funny and childish slap stick humour are things that the Americans are expert at. The ray guns firing soapy gloop and the team been covered by green slime we notable. One the most amusing scene was when the pompous officials and the mayor are covered in slime. Top notch fun and slime covered slapstick. Blade

Region Free - Loads of Features
The item was shipped from the USA and the Steelbook did not get any damage.Amazon was not too clear on the region code. It said that it was region A only but other websites said that this edition of Ghostbusters was region free.Knowing that 4K disks are always region free and owning a region A PS3 for American Blu-Ray playback I made the gamble and bought the USA edition as I wanted this version of the Steelbook. When it arrived the paper sleeve (as seen in picture 3) shows that all disks within the boxset are ABC Coded. I tested the disks in a XboxX as this is my 4K player and found no playback issues. You may wish to know -The 4K quality is not great. It's obviously the same digital transfer from the last 4K edition back in June 2016.My setup is a 55" Bravia 4K Android, 4K HDMI playing from a XboxX, the sound is Sonos 5.1 + Sub. All picture settings are calibrated by myself to the highest standard. Sound has been calibrated by the Apple Sonos "Trueplay". (I'm a fussy guy)So if you are buying this 4K edition because you wish for a better picture, don't bother. If your wanting the amazing extras including Audio commentary then this is for you!But as a Ghostbuster fan and Ghostbuster cosplayer, This Blu-ray made my day!
