Q: I see alternate products where the glass pebble has a groove on the top surface for easy removal. Is it hard to remove these flat ones?

You do have to fish out the pebbles with a spoon or your hand. I don't think the grooves would help much either. I recommend that if you are using chopped up cabbage to top it with a whole piece of cabbage so that it can block the little pieces of cabbage from floating up and block the glass pebble from going down too far.

Q: Can you sanitize the glass weights in the dishwasher?

Hi, I’ve been using the glass weights for two years and never use a dishwasher. I wash them in hot soapy water before I wash everything else. And my fermented vegetables always turn out great. So technically I guess I’ve never “sanitized” them. So a dishwasher should be fine for a thorough cleaning.
