Perfect for our application
I recieved it in good condition, on time, well packed. I looked at less expensive options, but the Steelmaster was perfect. I am using this as a mail/lock box for an elementary school's PTO. Teachers will be able to submit money requests and drop off collected fundraising monies safely. The one modification I performed was to open up the envelope drop slot slightly in the middle to allow thicker envelopes with cash inside to drop into the compartment with less resistance. The lock mechanism feels secure, the keys work perfectly, but once I put a couple drops of oil in the mechanism it was smooth as butter. One thing that isn't apparent from the pictures or description is that there is a small slot on the top of the box in the back where you can store paper/envelopes etc. This is in addition to the lower storage compartment. In short, this is exactly what we were looking for.

Great and simple
This is just what I needed for my fitness center. I have a self serve gym and people needed a place to drop off their payments every month. I have three children so I'm not down there all the time and we live in a very small town soon need for receptionist. It's great. Checks can be dropped in but not fished out without key. My husband easily attached it to my desk and it's very sturdy!

Security Box - Good, but some modifications maybe required
It was great for what we desired. There were a couple of items both good and bad for which I'll comment. The sturdiness of the box is to keep honest people honest. I would not put it outside in a high crime area. You could easily pry it open or jimmy the lock. But having said that it is great for our use since we use it inside a building locked at night. The box is advertised as 3" deep. However, there is space behind the box which is 1" deep which can be used for storing envelopes. I did not see this in the picture, but it was very handy for our use. However, now the working depth of box is only 2". So if you have numerous envelopes being placed into the box, it will handle 25-35 envelopes relatively easily. For this to be true another issues must be resolved. The envelope storage area does not go all the way down the box which creates a space at the rear of box which is 1.5" high and 3/4" deep across the box. This additional space does not increase the storage, but actually limits the number of envelopes which will fit into the box. The reason is that the first envelopes will not stay vertical because of this space and lay at approx. 45 degree angle. This continues as more people put envelopes in the box. As more envelopes are inserted through the slot, because these envelopes at the bottom are not vertical, the box gets clogged much sooner and eventually envelopes cannot be completely inserted into the box even though there may be space available. My solution to this was to take a piece of wooden stake which is 1.5" x 3/4", cut it to the length. Drill holes where the wall attachment screws will go through and silicone the wood in place. This will enables the previous envelopes to stay vertical and allow an envelope to create space between the other envelopes when a person pushes down on their envelope. Since the 2" depth was still marginal for our capacity, we purchased a 2nd box because we also like the envelope storage. The next issue is the key slot in the middle of the box slot. This slot may be good or bad depending upon the desired use of the box. The good is that it allows keys to be easily dropped into the box. The bad is that this wider area makes it much easier for unscrupulous people to fish envelopes out of the box especially when the box nears capacity. You can bend this welded or glued piece of sheet metal to make the slot narrower, but if you bend it all the way up, the metal piece is extends past the slot edge making it more difficult to insert envelopes. You can bend it partially to make the slot narrower, but my experience of purchasing 2 boxes is that these metal pieces have significant length variation, so this resolution is somewhat of a crap shoot. My solution to this was to cut a piece of sheet metal to fit across this area and then epoxy the piece in place. It also can be pop riveted to make it more secure. I then painted it for aesthetics. Modification to the slot is much trickier. If you are not a DIYer, then I would not attempt to bend the metal because you may break off the weld or adhesive and then your box is basically useless.

Very handy and well made.
This works great, my renter can drop their rent monies in here and I don't have to be home, just the right size for my use, and have a place to put envelopes frothier use and a slot to put the rent in, never had anyone tamper with it. Great Product.

OK saw reviews on this and my only complaint is that the top does have a large notch that could allow fingers to slip through... But I just bent the piece of metal up a little more and solved that issue. I am using this for a deposit box inside. It is slightly flimsy but people would have to work on it for a while to break it open... And seriously if you are going to have a drop box I wouldnt feel save no matter how secure it was unless I had a Cam on it...

Great Box for My In Home Daycare
I purchased this box for my in-home childcare business. I have it inside my foyer for parents to drop off payments. It works extremely well for my needs. Before the box parents would hand me my checks while outside playing or during the rush of morning routine. Now they just put them in the box, no worries about losing checks. (that has happened!) Plus the parents really like it! Overall great quality for what I was looking for!

If you are putting a thick wad of bills in this drop box you many want to purchase a larger one. However, this one fits our needs perfectly and still has room to store extra keys.

Okay, but flimsy for public areas
I purchased this box to be placed in a public area to allow customers to insert currency securely. In fact, I have used it for that purpose, but I have had cash stolen from the box on at least one occasion. The thief had finger that were slender enough to permit access to cash that was inside the box. The thief did not try to pry open the lock, but I believe I could do so using only a medium-size flat-blade screwdriver. This is not really suitable as a cash deposit box for a public area. I am still looking for a better alternative.

Perfect product
Perfect product for the problem we were experiencing at our condo. Once the guest(s) from the guest suite left for home, they now had a place to put our guest suite keys prior to leaving our building. Not even Home Depot or Canadian Tire had this product.
