It does not matter what liquid I use these strips in the reading is the exact same whether in my hot tub or a glass of milk. (I don’t normally test milk but I was curious after I made multiple chemical adjustments to the hot tub and none of them were reflecting on these strips). I have tried them for about 6 months now but continuously need to change the hot tub water as my chemicals are getting out of wack. Spend the couple extra dollars to know what your levels are actually at.
