Bought for a single, specific purpose ... it's OK, but lacking in precision.
My context is that I'm a bicycle wheel builder. Often I get wheels that need a new rim. If it's a well-known make, I can just buy one easily. If it's not, then I have to make very careful measurements of the original rim to buy a replacement. Sometimes, I can reuse old rims on other wheels ... but likewise I need to be able to make very careful measurements so I can buy the correct spokes.One of the measurements I need to be able to make is from the outside of the rim to the bottom of the spoke hole. I have had to mess about with a vernier calliper up until now and it makes my life difficult. With this tool, I can make the measurements quickly and accurately.Accuracy is important as I need the measurements to buy spokes ... and these have to be bought with lengths correct to the nearest 0.5 mm.I have only given 4 stars because there is a 1/2 mm zero error. I've calibrated it and now need to remember to add 1/2 mm to the reading obtained. It's not a big deal as I'm not after absolute precision and I'm smart enough to do it. I'd rather not have to do it, though.All-in-all, I'm a happier wheel builder today than I was yesterday!
