are you a cat person?
are you a cat person? if yes, get this book. I have went through his other book on drawing animals and this is just as detailed. Joe Weatherly is an expert on drafting animals, there is emotion and an economy of line in his sketches that one can only achieve after years of practice. His books aren't for drawing a single hyperrealistic animal portrait that you spent 30+ hours on; they are for understanding the structure and gesture and gait of an animal so that you can capture their nature with only a few lines, and achieve a compelling pose. This is the book to get if you wish to understand and draw cats from imagination (or from life), not just copying a reference. Cats are fascinating, graceful creatures that ive always found the most difficult animal to draw, as their grace lends to an innate gestural rhythm that ive struggled to capture. i feel lucky that there is such a book on drawing cats by Mr. Weatherly. I'm wondering if he'll drop a future book on dogs and other canines, if so I would be the first to purchase it.

Another Excellent Guide by Joe Weatherly
This is an excellent guide to drawing all sorts and sizes of cats---line drawings, drawings of cats in motion and, most helpful of all, construction drawings. Helps in understanding cat skeleton and muscle structure as well as various anatomical features and patterns. Highly recommend!! Money very well spent!

This Book Is Seriously Amazing!
Joe Weatherly's books on drawing animals are the absolute best available - and I mean that literally. I am an animal-centric artist and I have purchased just about every book available on the subjects of animal anatomy and construction and his books and videos lead the pack, so I knew even before seeing it that this was going to be a good reference, but wow - it has exceeded my expectations! This book is chock full of everything from basic construction of the individual parts to creating form, gesture, anatomy (including bones and muscles of both the head and body) and everything in between. It's all broken down with a combination of easy to understand explanations of how things work independently and together, as well as several hundred drawings. It could not be more comprehensive or easier to understand. It covers both wild cats and domesticated cats, with sections on movement and the specific walk, run and leap cycles/poses, sections on the body in perspective and foreshortening, individual sections on over 30 wild cats and their characteristics (including commonly known ones like lions, tigers, cougars, bobcats, servals, etc., as well as less familiar cats like caracals, geoffroy's cats, pampas, jaguarundis, etc.) and a section for over 20 domesticated cats, including siamese, bengals, himalayans, ragdolls, etc.If you have his first book, The Weatherly Guide to Drawing Animals, this book is a perfect companion, as you're not just getting a regurgitation of information from that one. This one covers some of the same information as is in the first book, and adds to it a few hundred drawings, details and examples covering new information. And the areas that were also included in the first book are put into different contexts and examples/explanations in this one, so it's worth it to have both books. If you don't already have the first book, get it - I can't stress enough how great that book is also! You'll see your drawings improve immediately and drastically with this book & you'll literally save yourself a few years of struggle, so I can't recommend this book highly enough.

best of the best
I got this book through his kickstarter and both this book and the weatherly guide to drawing animals are the best books on animal drawing. They are very easy to read and plenty of illustrations to make the point. If I could have just one book on animal drawing it would be by Joe Weatherly.
