Faber-Castell 9000 Graphite Sketch Pencil Art Set (8B - 2H) with Kneaded Art Eraser, Large Dust Free Eraser and Sharpener

I've just taken up drawing, and I found these when I was looking for a basic starter set. So far, they've been doing a good job. The included sharpener produces a very fine point. Both erasers work well. One of the pencils (I forget which one) had the point broken off in transit, but it sharpened up OK. My set did not come with a case (some reviewers apparently did get one), but the description didn't list it so I wasn't expecting it.

Faber Castel never disappoints! I was never big on using graphite. I just preferred to use ink or colored pencil, so I didn't have many quality graphite pencils. I've been using Koh-I-Noors for a while, but I needed a larger variety of hardnesses, and I LOVE THESE! This is a perfect set for my needs as an adult coloring page artist. They are super-smooth, with no scratchy bits in the cores, sharpen easily and still hold an edge. I love blending the softer pencils with the harder ones, even on the super-smooth vellum I use daily, and the green barrels are easy to see at a glance among all the black pens scattered over my desk. And they have a very nice hard plastic storage case that travels well. I will buy these again and again!

Castell 9000 graphite pencils are a standard for artists. This boxed set contains 1 each of 8B, 7B, 6B, 5B, 4B, 3B, 2B, B, HB, F, H, and 2H giving a wide range of shades. Inside the box you'll also find a standard dust free plastic eraser and a red one-hole plastic sharpener which store neatly in the box. The blue kneaded eraser ships in a separate plastic case and unfortunately does not fit in the box, so it will be easy to misplace - I wish they had made it part of the boxed set. The pencils come sharpened, though the points are not consistent. The box itself is kind of flimsy - you might want to transfer it all to a plastic case. Still it's a great all-in-one set that I recommend, especially for beginners. Once you run out of a hardness, replacements for each are available in multi-boxes. You can find lower prices at some of the online art supply stores which Amazon won't allow me to name, but do a search and you may get a much better deal. 4 stars.

The pencils arrived quickly. The pencils were bundled and saran wrapped together rather cheaply (IMHO). Included were the two erasers and the sharpener in an oversized bubble envelope. The product itself is good. Seems to be an adequate amount of pencils to start learning to draw. Now I need to find a small pouch or case to put them in.

Really excellent graphite pencils. I can feel the difference compared to all the other graphite pencils I’ve used while growing up. The graphite is very easy to work with. Shades in really well. The lead is strong but smooth. No scratching. I was thinking of buying graphite pencils from other brands but now I don’t see any need for that since faber Castell is so excellent. Thanks Amazon.ca Update: it’s a pleasure to see that the lead doesn’t break unlike Castle arts. At least I can use these pencils. I rather spend more money and get a good quality pencils like faber Castell. Outstanding quality.

My go-to art pencils. I bought these several times as gifts for people looking to get into art, they're a great option for both beginners and experienced artists. Dust-free erasers are a game changer if you've never tried them.

For serious enthusiasts of graphite pencil drawing, purchase of a reputed brand of pencil is a must, and Faber Castell is an excellent value. I was using older no-name pencils (to avoid throwing them out) but they were of "grade school" quality, not artist quality. I discovered that they were scratchy and gritty on artist drawing paper, potentially ruining drawings, I ended up throwing them out in favour of the FB's.
