Two classic 1970s' thrillers
I had waited decades for 'The Cassandra Crossing' to come out on BluRay. It looks exquisite and is as thrilling as I remember it when I saw it in the theaters back in 1978. This film about a trainload of people exposed to a deadly virus was thought inplausible but now does not seem far-fetched, Richard Harris, Sophia Loren, Burt Lancaster, Ava Gardner, Martin Sheen, O.J. Simpson, Lionel Stander, Ingrid Thulin and Lee Strasberg lead an international cast in this fast-paced and thrilling George Pan Cosmatos' film. The second film, "The Domino Principle' is an overlooked 1976 thriller about a shadowy owrld organization invovled in assasinations and politicla plots. Gene Hackman stars as war vet who is pulled intot this organization. The supporting cast is stellar with Candice Bergen, Richard Widmark, Mickey Rooney, and Eli Wallach.

A pair with a pair
I bought this set all because of the Cassandra Crossing. I feel that the movie itself is one of the most underrated and visionary disaster films from the seventies with a little bit of everything thrown in for good measure and an all star cast as well. Its tense, with a lot of build up which comes to an anticlimactic ending that doesn't live up to some expectations, on the surface, but what disaster movie from the era does? I like drawing my own conclusions. Also, this film feels more European than Hollywood so, for both these reasons, I think it doesn't appeal to all tastes. For a reasonably good price, I got an equally good flick which strikes me as not just underrated, but downright forgotten. Directed by Stanley Kramer, who also made Judgment at Nuremberg and On the Beach, is as good as any political paranoia thriller of the era. They both look just like what the doctor ordered quality wise and other than there are no subtitles for neither and I missed a little something here and there, I think this was a really good bargain...

Blu-ray debut for The Cassandra Crossing
The second review I ever wrote on Amazon.com was for the old Artisan DVD of THE CASSANDRA CROSSING back in 1999. I was thrilled to get the film in a letterboxed format on DVD after years of less-than-stellar presentations on VHS tape. And I remained happy with that purchase for some years as the letterbox version went out of print and was replaced by a pan and scan disc.As televisions evolved to larger and larger screens with higher and higher definition, I found that the old DVD of this film that I had been so thrilled with was now woefully inadequate. Though it was "widescreen", it was presented within a 4:3 frame, resulting in one of those postage-stamp images. Zooming in with the TV just made the picture blurrier. Now Blu-ray to the rescue through Shout! Factory/Timeless Media Group. They've taken a pristine copy of the original movie and transferred it to Blu-ray, resulting in a high-definition image that needs to be seen to be believed. This almost forty-year-old movie has never looked better. The image is bright and sharp with proper film grain. This 2014 Blu-ray package contains two discs. One is a Blu-ray, the other is a remastered DVD. Each disc contains two movies (the other in THE DOMINO PRINCIPLE which I've never seen).Sound quality is adequate with the sole Dolby Digital soundtrack. There are no subtitles or closed captions.

Sophia Loren shines in rare and exellent disaster-film with great tension and good storyline.
At last Cassandra Crossing comes on blu ray. It is one of the best disaster-films at a same level as "Towering inferno" and "Poseidon adventure" in 70th, inclouding all star-casting. I just love a chemistry between marvelous Sophia Loren and Richard Harris - specially Miss Loren seems to enjoy every minute of acting in this rare action-movie in her great career. The train passangers is ful of stars like Ava Gardner, Martin Sheen or characters in international Health Organization in Geneve; Burt Lancaster and Ingrid Thulin. Film's persons are written alive, chinematography is brilliant and all actors do teir job well. Film is entertaining and exiting, and in the end legendary producer Mr. Carlo Ponti shows, how to greate a big scene in disaster film, long before, there was any digital techonology helping. Blu Ray itself has a vivid alive picture with rich colours and good sharpnes- sound is good. I'm happy to have this version after video-tape, after DVD-versions; now it looks brilliant in a big screen at hometheater and I just love it!

Tense, but...
This is a taut thriller, st on a train when it is discovered that one of its passengers is carrying a very deadly disease across Europe, from Switzerland ton Poland. BUt it feels more like an episode of The Love Boat, or Fantasy Island, with its all-star cast: Sophia Lorean, Richard Harris, Martin Sheen, O.J. Simpson, Lionel Stander, Lee Strasberg, Ava Gardner, and Burt Lancaster.

Two Good Quality Catalog Titles.
The video quality is very acceptable in the Blu-ray of each movie and the sound while dated is adequate. I did not watch the DVD versions. This is a two disc set, each disc contains both movies in Blu-Ray and DVD.. I was pleased to be able to add these titles to my collection. Good value..

WOW..... two films, bonus features, nice transfers, both on BR and DVD... moderately priced.... 5 STARS
a couple of excellent movies from the 70's featuring a virtual who's who of stars .... in both BR and DVD , with bonus features ... for the price of a single ticket to a movie today.... 5 STARS all the way. Great transfers.... The Domino Principle alone would rate this 5 stars for me so I look at the other as total bonus! I'm an owner and have watched them twice.... just a load of fun, and did I mention stacked with acting greats?

Bio warfare at it's worse
Well Made. Richard Harris and Sophia Loren are very good and of course you get to see O.J. get his. While being a good Guy; what a novel concept.

Great movies
Exciting, thrilling and engaging on many frontiers, the insights given into how diseases can be curtailed and the lengths political bodies will also go in an effort to protect.
