Great buy
This product was so easy to use out of the box and great. With the weather improving its been great to have with our grill. Looking forward to making fried chicken and finally keeping the oil at a constant temperature.

When it worked it was great but it stopped working 6 weeks after the return cut-off date
When it worked it was great! I loved that I could have the reader on the outside of the stove and it'd beep when done. The things I cooked with it always came out good.Sadly, it stopped working today. I replaced the battery with a new fresh one but the display displays seemingly random numbers now and the bottom line of the pixels of the numbers are not displaying.I bought this less than a year ago and have taken good care of it.I need another because I like this kind of thermometer. Maybe I'll spring for a more expensive one this time.

An extremely useful tool!
I've been wanting to try out a digital thermometer for a while, and this one seemed pretty good to try.It comes in a well packed box, wrapped in bubble wrap; corded probe and instructions are also in the box, comes with a battery installed. First inspection, I found maybe my only complaint about the thermometer, the hinged probe is SO hard to get out of it's locking notch, I had to use the corded probe at one point to help me pry it out.Once the probe is unfolded, the thermometer turns on. You can raise up the alarm temp if you want, which I did because I needed oil at a certain temperature, as it starts somewhere around 180 degrees (plus I didn't want the alarm going off repeatedly). I found the thermometer rang in extremely accurate, with both the corded probe and the hinged probe on the device itself. To test, I filled a glass with ice and water, swirled around the probe for 30 seconds and let it read the temp. It is very touch sensitive, the tip of the probe is what picks up most of the temp readings, so I had to be careful not to set it against an ice cube or it would read 27° to 29° for my test. For keeping track of the temp of oil, I mainly used the corded probe as I didn't want the device so close to the hot pan or have to hold it the entire time. The corded probe worked great for that task, as I could keep an eye on what temperature I was working with, and if I needed to raise or lower my burner setting, plus the thermometer was able to stay over a foot away from the heat. I'm yet to try this on candy as I'm a sucker for the glass candy thermometers, but I'm sure it would work well for that. The probe works well for meats, gives an instant reading so once it's ready, I know. Overall I would definitely recommend this, I do wish there was a way to actually turn off the temp alarm all together, rather than raising it way above the range I'll be in, if I don't want it to go off repeatedly from temperatures going down and then up again. And something that would really take the cake for this device would be if it came with a carrying/storage pouch, because you definitely don't want to drop it!
