Product Description Underneath the tough, rugged, waterproof casing of the extreme unit lies a massive 12,000mAh lithium battery - providing a hefty amount of power for users when they need it most. Unlike most portable chargers, the extreme features both a 12V DC output - suitable for charging bigger devices such as SLR cameras and tablets, a 5V 2A USB output for smaller devices such as smartphones and GPS systems PLUS a bi-directional USB-C socket - meaning you can charge the very latest devices utilising USB-C charging. These charging options make the extreme a front-runner in portable power technology and capability and give users the freedom to roam wild. The kit includes a 5 watt solar panel which outputs 5V 1A via USB and opens to 210 degrees - perfect for fitting to a back pack or tent. The solar panel features MPPT technology which gives optimum charging in low light conditions and will not stop charging should a cloud pass over the panels. Housed in a rugged, water resistant casing designed to withstand knocks and spills, the extreme is an essential item in your kit bag. What can the Extreme recharge? Solar Panel Failed
The solar part of this duo system failed after a few weeks of use. Right from the start it was very sluggish to start charging. In full sunlight it could take a few minutes for the charging light to change from red to green. There certainly was no output when the light was on red. I verified that with a simple analogue meter. When it changed to green, in good sunlight, I got about 500mA. Now the charging light stays permanently on red (no output) regardless of the device attached for charging or the strength of the sun. The battery seems to work as advertised.

Great item
Bought this for the wife when she was in Peru & off the trail it kept her phone charged takes a while for the solar panels to charge the capacitor but it's a good standby power source

Seems good but.
Seems to charge well, but I left the battery plugged in to the solar panel and the battery lost some charge, maybe best to unplug when not receiving power.

Replacing old unit
I have had a powermonkey explorer for years (still works) but it's too puny for today's phone & tab batteries. So this is it's replacement. Looks good so far, tested it once & it worked fine.
