My mossberg 500 does have the 4 set screws, and they line up perfectly with the holes on the rail. However, the holes are too small for the new screws

Our rail is made for post 1997 Mossbergs, as described in the description.If you have a pre 1997 Mossberg, the holes are shallower in size and require a different threading pattern. The rail will work with different screws. You will need 6x48 TPI screws which you can find in a hardware store.

Anyone know what size screws this uses? Ordered UTG model & came with 8 x 40, Mossberg 500A is tapped for 6 x 48, screws were too big.

You have the same problem I'm having. You have a pre-1997 model tapped for the 6×48 screws. All these mounts are sent out with 8x40 screws for post-1997 models. I'm searching for screws to work. Maybe one of these companies will have them. Good luck.

No it wont, only made for the 500 series shotgun.

Will this fit a 1997 Mossberg 500A?

I have a pre-1997 500A, and there are "no" threaded mounts anywhere on top of the receiver. So, unless this rail uses one or more of the threaded side mount points--I don't see how it possibly can be compatible with the 500A.

Great Rail and Would Buy Again

Very well made and tough rail. Fits perfectly on Mossberg 500 and only took minutes to install. It came with 5 screws and a wrench which thankfully fits my red dot. You can still aim down the rail without your aiming device attached. However, your field of view is slightly limited left and right. But, it acts like a rear v-sight so it balances out. I did use lock tite for insurance. I am glad I purchased this rail and I would absolutely buy another one.

Good quality at a reasonable cost

I'd never used the Monstrum brand before, but I will say at first glance I am impressed and may check out more of their kit. This bolted on to the receiver of my 590 Shockwave perfectly. It's a picatinny rail. It's nice quality. It's affordable, whaddya want from me lol ?

This is the rail you want for your Mossberg, look no further!

I bought this rail so I could attach a Burris Fastfire III with a American Defense QD mount to my 500. I had a UTG rail but it was so far out of spec that the ADM mount was squeezing the rail but not like a picatinny mount should. It left the Fastfire sitting crooked. On top of that the QD feature was a pain to remove. So I decided to give this mount a try. It attached to the receiver with ease and looks good. The ADM mount fits perfectly, nice and snug with the sight sitting perfect. This rail will does exactly what it's supposed to. It looks good and does its job. I didn't know a picatinny rail could be screwed up to the point of being barely functional, but good 'ol UTG figured out how to do it! Really though I'm the one to blame. I bought a UTG product and expected it to work as advertised. I should have known being a UTG that SOMETHING about it wouldn't be up to par. Monstrum Tactical on the other hand made a perfect rail and my 500 Persuader with FastFire III sitting on top is one bad mother of a shotgun!
