Real beautiful designs

this is a great book with fantastic reference for ornamental scrolls, and has been truly inspirational to use with my work

Having bought other Ornament books before I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the paper and the graphics. They are very very dark and some of them really small which makes them hard to read.

The illustrations are clear black and white drawings likely done from carvings on furniture and architectural embellishment. Earth spirits cherubs and fantastic creatures figure heavily in leafy designs in combination with symmetrical ornamental scroll work. Excellent reference for carvers and historical artists

This book is really a great collection of designs

Very educational

値段が値段だから仕方ないのかもしれませんが、描線が潰れ気味というかクリアでないために、 ただえさえごてごてと混み合っている絵柄がよりごちゃごちゃに見えてしまいます。 何と言うか、わら半紙にガリ版で刷ったものを更にコピーして本にしたという感じの質感です。 黒い線画が背景や輪郭に多用されているため、全体の印象も黒っぽいものが多いです。 これくらいの質だと、コピーをするといっそう悪化するのは目に見えている感じです。まだ試してはいませんが…。 同時に購入した類似の本ではもっとすっきりと綺麗に印刷されていましたので、この本の紙質の問題なのかな？ 図柄自体はとても綺麗で芸術的で美しいので、お仕事等で必要な方には十分使えると思います。 大振りで荘厳（ダイナミック？）なものや、天使の登場する優美なもの、ボーダーに使えそうなもの、 植物の蔦の絡まりのような意匠、西洋の宮殿建築でそこここに見られるような装飾デザイン、様々です。 趣味として取り込んで印刷したりして使いたかった自分は、残念ながら眺めて楽しむだけに終わりそうです。
