Q: Can you use an electric mixer to mash potatoes in it? I have an ancient Farberware that I use a mixer with, and no problems.

Since this saucepan is stainless steel using an electric mixer to mash potatoes should not be a problem. HOWEVER, this 1-qt size pan is rather small and in my opinion would not give you sufficient room for maneuvering an electric hand mixer without the contents of the saucepan spilling out. In my opinion, I would recommend using the 3-qt size for handling mashed potatoes with an electric hand mixer.

Q: How tall is the pan, excluding the cover?

Including the cover, the pan is about 6 inches high with a diameter of 5.5 inches. It will easily hold 16 ounces of liquid which is a small can of soup or regular size can of vegetables. Also, you can make two servings of hot cereal or two servings of rice in this pan.
