The material is a foil product. It should be okay to use a light bulb.

Difficult to say but estimate R-4/6 minimum and possibly as high as R-10. Roughly the same as a grocery store insulation bag based on thickness and construction.

Do i need to put towels or blankets? or just the cover is enough?

Not necessary or room enough for towels but good idea to use some bubble wrap to seal any gaps in the insulation cover. Be sure to secure cover with zip ties or string to prevent possibility of wind blowing off backflow valve.

Which color is less likely to fade in the sun?

They all fade after just one winter.
