How do you clean water bottle, straw and lid?

Hot, soapy water. I have a little brush for the straw, which I also use on the lid. In the bottle itself I swirl the water around, then rinse. If the bottle needs scrubbing, I have a silicon baby bottle brush that is perfect. Hope this helps!

How should I use the cup to make it cleaner and more durable?

All stainless water bottles need to be cleaned often. Hot water rinse every day is basic. A little white vinegar in hot water is a better cleaner and best is a bleach water rinse. In the summer you will have to rinse the bottle more often. I have used a 64 oz bottles for 10 years and you just have to remember to clean them. I replace the straw lid every 2 months or so. Also remember to clean the straw lid with the supplied brush under hot water. I recommend buying a flask cleaning brush to scrub the inside. Bacteria tends to build up at the bottom of the flask, around the cap seal and where the straw attaches to the cap.

I need to fill it with water and throw it in my backpack, will it leak?

there might be a small condensation on the outside of the bottle if you put ice cold water in it. The bottle itself doesn't leak.
