Turned from Beech wood and liberally treated with food safe oil. Approx 14" long, allows use with stock pot's and other deep pans. The traditional Scottish Spurtle (sometimes also pronounced as Spirtle) is a kitchen tool which was in use back in the 15th century and possibly even earlier. Originally a flat spatula like utensil used for turning oatcakes or scones for example. Over the ensuing years the shape became more rod like and was used mainly for constant stirring of broths and porridge to prevent them from congealing & becoming lumpy. The Annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge-Making Championship, held in Carrbridge each year, invites porridge-makers from across the globe to compete for the "Golden Spurtle".
