You'll need to commit to the mental exercises for this strategy to work
I'm about 2/3's through the book and have picked up a wealth of mental strategy that seems to be working for me. Not only has my consistency improved, but Im no longer thinking about results at address. I also feel more fluidity in my swing. If you're interested in the mental strategies of golf, this book is a must read.

Golf in Particular, Life in General
I don't have much interest in competitive sports--and I know next to nothing about golf--but this book turned out to be a synthesis of several other scientifically-based self-improvement books I've read over the years, with a twist that offers a unique training system for athletes (or quotidian humans) who want to be able to quickly lock into a task and conquer it with excellence on demand. The book is laid out nicely. First, Bo Watson, who brings a wealth of golf knowledge and passion to the book, shares his story. Then, Shannon Shuskey, who helms the Olympic-level coaching and scientific aspect, shares his testimony. We learn of their frustrations and successes and, ultimately, the moment they joined forces and pioneered a groundbreaking training system, based on imagery-centric Psychoneuromuscular Theory. The entire history and framework, from classical conditioning (Pavlov's dogs) to creating a custom trigger-and-response toolset (deep breathing, kinesthetic imagery, custom trigger, conditioned response) is clearly explicated. For all of the potential headiness for the common reader, however, Bo and Shannon root everything in real-world examples and applications along the way.The core of the book's system draws on several books that have made an impact on me throughout my life. The first is Masaru Emoto's stunning book _The Hidden Messages in Water_ , which proves the impact of negative and position spoken language on water molecules (water, of course, making up 60% of the human body). Next is _Mindset: The New Psychology of Success_ by Carol S. Dweck, which offers an array of experiments behind her theory of the growth versus fixed mindset. For me, back in 2007, this book was an eye-opening catalyst of self-discovery. The third and much more recent book is _The Perfect You: A Blueprint for Identity_ by Dr. Caroline Leaf, which delves into discoveries of neuroplasticity (essentially: rewriting your own brain). There's also a stratum of B. F. Skinner's Behaviorism undergirding these theories, but not enough to warrant it as a salient pillar of the book’s system, though Skinner’s discoveries shouldn’t be waved off dismissively either. Again, though, the whole point of reading Watson and Shuskey's book is in how they synthesize all of these various studies and customize it for their clients’ needs. The other prominent element of this book, and one only found in Leaf's _The Perfect You_ of the aforementioned studies, is that of Christian faith. Though the book is written with a compassion and respectfulness for readers of any background--there are even disclaimers heading sections on faith for those who wish to skip ahead--it cannot be denied that the authors are firmly rooted in the tenants of Christianity. They even draw an undeniable parallel between the mental realm of competitive sports and the Christian life, in a section that anyone struggling with anxiety and depression would benefit from reading. In the end, you feel that the authors are indeed intent on helping you, not on inducting you into a religious cult.In sum, if you're interested in learning how you can create a scientifically-based custom psychological trigger that has been proven by Olympic-level athletes to instantly transport yourself into a mental zone where clarity and excellence thrive and distraction and self-doubt are silenced, _In The Zone Secrets: How To Get In The Zone At The Flip Of A Switch_ by Bo Watson and Shannon Shuskey is the book you want. Get it, read it, practice it, reference it, calibrate your application of it, succeed.

Incredible, better than Rotella books! This will change your life
I read tons of books on the mental game. I’ve always been impressed with Bob Rotella stuff, but these guys take it up a level to fine tuning your process and mental state of mind. This is a process book and if you implement it, I really do believe you will shave a handful or more shots from your game. Highly recommend

A different approach
Bought this book one week ago. Heard a podcast on Mark Immelmann with the authors. Finding it hard to not plough through the whole book!Love the different perspective. The layout is easy to navigate. The barcodes are a fantastic addition to this great read. They supply tests to check oneself. Access to the audiobook which I have also used for a couple of the chapters . Also homework to improve the mental game skills. I can see it takes dedication like anything else to get the results. I’m only half way through and putting some of the tools in place with some success already .

This information is amazing.
I’m an older golfer that’s has had putting problems for the last few years. I am half way through the book and by visualization of not only the putt rolling but also feeling the stroke before I putt I had 27 putts today. This is only my 2nd round since I started the book and I have had no physical practice only mental practice. I have had an issue with 2-3 foot putts and I started making those in my 1st round after reading this information. I’ve played for 50 years and this is the best investment I have ever made. If you put it into practice it will work.

Game Changer
This book has helped me focus and make my practice better. Better goals during practice have actually made shorter practices more beneficial than the mindless long practices I used to do.

Great resource to improve …in any endeavor, not just golf.
In my never ending quest to get better at anything I do, I find myself reading an average of 1-2 self-help books a month. And I have been for years. At this point, I rarely find new material that I can use. In The Zone Secrets was a breath of fresh air for me. There are several things I am taking away from the book and applying to my everyday actions. The Power Talk chapter by itself was incredibly useful. I’d highly recommend this book for anyone looking to become a better version of the person they are today. I’d add that being a golfer is certainly a bonus as there are several specific actions you can take to the course. But I’m by no means a golfer…and the actionable ideas I have from this book are endless. Really good stuff here.
