Can you leave the doors off of this to use as a bookshelf

Yes, absolutely you may. You may also choose to leave the two center doors on and leave the two outer doors off. I purchased two and put them side by side, leaving just a small distance to have easy access to the electric plug, even though they are not meant to put together, they just look great.

What is the max weight capacity for the top of it?

I’m not sure what i have on top is not extremely heavy but the cabinet itself seems sturdy, the only thing i will say is that the instructions said not to open all doors at the same time bc it may tilt over hope this helps its a very nice piece of furniture
