Faxx FTM 141 Trumpet Aluminium Adjustable Cup Mute with Copper Cup and Copper Bottom

There are several nice features with this me.Firstly it is visually stunning, with its polished copper base contrasting nicely with the shiny aluminium uppers. Very classy looking.Another nice feature with this mute is the cup is removable so it can be used as a strait. The copper bottom gives it a much warmer tone than an all aluminium and you can put much more air without it sounding tinny. In straight configuration it blends nicely with premium brass bottomed mutes (such as Crown), and completely eclipses my all aluminium Wick straight.But that's only the half of it.With the cup and no felt the sound is again lovely. Great intonation and a real warmth of tone that doesn't disappear with volume, making my stonewall cup sound cold and hard in comparison. The real gem is with the felt fitted you can close the cup in to the bell as desired and get anything from soft cup to bucket sound. Absolutely beautiful for solo work for extra warmth and colour, or where you want to provide support under another soloist.You can even close the cup right in and use it as a practice mute.The build quality of the Faxx is fantastic and the cup can easily be adjusted with the left hand while playing.The cup on its own can also be used as a plunger with the hand over the end.This mute is no lightweight so with cup and felt fitted it is worth playing with the left hand supporting the bell and bottom, but I normally do anyway as it's easier to adjust the tone colour with a bit of touch on the mute.Corks are soft and nicely grippy and did not require sanding or a file.The only criticism is there is no soft collar at the top of the mute. I wrapped the top centimetre with sellotape and trimmed it with a craft knife so the look and characteristics of the mute are unchanged, but it softens any clanking when muting up. Minor niggle and easily adjusted.If I was going to use just one mute for everything this would be it, it really is smashing and very versatile, and certainly if you only have room in your box for one mute, this is the one.All in all, way past cool!

Excellent. It's solidly made, sounds good, looks good and doesn't dent when dropped. Best cup mute I've had in 60 years of playing
