I am still on the fence if this actually helps the chickens with anything but it definitely helps the coop smell better. I spread some of this out every week in the coop and the nesting boxes. We get pretty steady egg production already so I cannot say that it improves egg production but it definitely helps it smell better when I have to go in the coop.

The media could not be loaded.  While I'm no newbie to using nesting herbs for my hens, this will make a nice introduction for those who haven't tried it before. This 10 oz. bag of organic nesting herbs for chickens by Sassafras & Pumpernickel is worth a purchase. It'll also make a wonderful gift for that new keeper of laying hens whose excited about their girls.The packaging design and the attention to detail at the bottom, so fancy! Bag is resealable at the top. Opening the bag to find a colorful potpourri of beautiful herbs lifted my mood...I think it was also because I got a whiff of its aromatics. A plus for my chickens and me.The blend of herbs included:- organic calendula- organic chamomile- organic lavender- organic lemon balm- organic lemongrass- organic rose petals- organic peppermintAll are safe to chickens, if they really wanted to take a nibble it'll be okay. The extra benefit is that these herbs also deter pests.It's easy to apply. A handful in each nesting box will do. It's good for your chicken's dust baths, put a bunch in there. I also sprinkle herbs on the floor of our raised coop as a refresh after I've applied a new layer of dried hemp that I use to cover the floor.Imprinted on the bag, manufactured in the USA with ingredients from Albania and Egypt.

I'm always looking for ways to spoil my backyard flock so jumped at the opportunity to try this out.Upon recieving the bag, I opened it to check it out. It smells just like tea! I won't deny considering steeping some just to see what it tasted like.I tossed some in each nesting box and throughout the run. My curious girls checked it out immediately. They were drawn to it. They even taste tested it for quality purposes.So far it's a winner. The aroma took over the coop, a tough feat considering I used coffee ground bedding. Their house smells like a wonderful cafe now.Time will tell if it repels insects but I'm confident it will with what it's mixed with.

I keep getting different brands of nesting herbs. I love them. They look cool and smell nice in the coop. I don't think the chickens really care one way or the other though. They pick at them a bit, but they don't go crazy over them. I've filled an entire nesting box with them, and they seem to avoid that box for the most part when laying eggs so I'm going to have to say they aren't anywhere near as impressed as I am. They don't mind when I just sprinkle some in the boxes and I can put it all over the floor, but they don't seem to want them as their only bedding.So if you are getting them for you, go for it. And maybe I just have weird picky chickens.

This is my review of Sassafras & Pumpernickel's Certified USDA Organic Chicken Nesting Herbs (10 oz, Resealable Bag). My most appreciated aspect of this product is that it is Organic. We always try to use organic materials around our animals. So, we added this product to the inside of our chicken coop to refresh the smell of the area. It did a wonderful job. The chickens like this product in their dust bath area as well. It makes our girls happy therefore, I am rating this product 5 stars.

The packaging says that this product is made in America. I notice that the ingredients are sourced from eastern Europe. If that matters to you, be aware. The nesting herbs smell clean and very pretty. Our hens are pampered. I'm not sure if they appreciate the sweet smelling nest box, but I can tell you that I do!I use cedar shavings and sprinkle this stuff into my coop nesting box. Our nesting box is sized for six hens. One bag is sufficient for four nest box cleanings in my case.
