NESBO ON FILM A STEEP CLIMB, FREEZING OUT MOST VIEWERS
To start, the reader should know that I have read all the Nesbo HH books and his available movies. So what Nesbo creates in mystery intrigues me, most tantalizing being the dead end clues he dolesout in abundance, and the psychological intensity that jumps off the page but cannot register on the screen..Given that, I fully appreciate the critics who find the film puzzling, slow, and less than enjoyable..Since most fellow Americans I know do not read books and expect mystery to be spoon fed by tv formulae, frustration with the film is understandably abundant..I join those critics who disliked the disjointedstructure, and I agree that reviewers who have not read Nesbo will wonder what the film is about. What most viewers can agree to are the stunning visuals of Norway landscapes and themes of isolation..But remember that adapting even the most popular mystery literature to film has typically not fared well.My familiarity with the HH characters and those few HH struggles to love, not possible for an addict, isportrayed well but obliquely, as are all relationships, a Nesbo mainstay..My rating comes about from myadmiration for the skill of the filmmakers in taking up the challenge of capturing what they can of anovel that cannot satisfy the casual viewer..visually..When reading, passages can be reread when thingsseem remiss, but the film viewer has no opportunity to stop and reflect; the action must move, with keyto film as entertainment is to give the audience no opportunity to think if anything makes sense..

Do yourself a favor and ignore the bad reviews
Like the other positive reviews stated. I also don’t understand the hate for this movie. I purchased it because renting wasn’t an option. Thrillers are my favorite genre of movies and books so I’ve seen and read some really amazing books and seen some amazing movies. Seven, Wind River, Silence of the Lambs this is not but holy moly I couldn’t believe how much hate this movie got that my curiosity got the best of me so I bought it and sat there and watched it and waited for it to suck so bad I would regret my $14.99 purchase 1/2 way through the movie I was still invested and by the end I was still invested. Sure his name sucks...Harry Hole? Seriously I see this kid getting teased as a kid growing up and the ex girlfriend was meh but it was entertaining to me. Well acted. Having read the book I thought there were areas where they could have developed the characters more. Explain why Harry was an alcoholic more information on Katrina. Wish they took the whole “nipple route” if you read the book you would know what I’m talking about. Honestly I hated the book and found the movie far more entertaining. Look I’ve seen some thriller movie crap “Fracture” I hated and I’m a Ryan Gosling fan and I actually was dumb enough to purchase “Frozen Ground” talk about crap. It just goes to show don’t always listen to the reviews and just see for yourself. I mean I also enjoyed The Girl on the Train and everyone hated that too.

This is the perfect example of not listening to the reviews.
This is the perfect example of not listening to the reviews. If you have read ALL of the terrific Jo Nesbo novels featuring Detective Harry Hole (as I have) you will love this. If you are not in that category, I can see how the movie would seem slow and methodical. This is classic Norwegian noir brought to you by the same Director who did the classic "Let The Right One In". The mere fact that so many high profile actors chose such small roles just to work on this film (J.K. Simmons, Val Kilmer, Toby Jones, Jame D'Arcy, et. al) shows just how important this work is. At times, it was almost distracting to see so many recognizable faces while trying to follow the grisly tale of The Snowman Killer. I absolutely love it and hope that other Nesbo/Harry Hole fans become as vocal as I have. It would be a shame if we don't get any more Harry Hole novels made into films (starring the great Michael Fassbender) because of the views of the ignorant masses.

Not bad Snowman
I enjoyed it. There are flaws. Character development is alright. Premise decent. Just predictable and easy to guess. So not as thrilling as it could have been. Worth a watch....

Great crime mystery
Disagree with the few negative reviews I read. Sometimes I think Americans whine about directors using flashbacks, etc. because they are used to Hollywood and tv directors just telling a story straight from start to finish. Yes, you have to think about stories that use flashback, etc. It adds to the richness and the mystery. What surprised me was the high end actors used, mostly British, if you watch those movies and shows, that are only briefly in it. I asked myself how this director could get such quality actors to do such short bits. Ahhhhh. Martin Scorcese is the director. Very well done, keeps you guessing. British or American accents are always a little odd in, say a Norwegian movie like this one, but you get over it. Also a little gruesome. I will admit to watching through my fingers on more than one occasion. This one kept me guessing until almost the end.

A great thriller that is under rated
A great thriller filmed in Norway and mostly with Scandinavian actors apart from Val Kilmer and J.K. Simmons. Val Kilmer looks terrible, and the make up people didn't had to use much on him in this film that is for sure! While some reviewers find the action it slow I disagree with them, the pace is perfect, just like in real life, it takes time for events to unfold. I also enjoyed the fact there were no diversity token roles in the film because that would have ruined the film like so many are ruined these days, as the characters changed to suit the viewing audience political correctness versus maintaining the actual characters based upon books they made from, after all it takes place in Oslo and Bergen, not in London, L.A. or Toronto! And I bet that is why The Snowman did not received great accolades or reviews in North America.

Interesting, psychological thriller
The story was interesting, but I found it dragging in some spots. Also, was somewhat confusing. I though the lead character was the boy portrayed in the beginning in the flashback scenes-discovered much later it wasn't.

Great, slow moving thriller
Great Suspense Thriller, European style. It's a slow moving movie with a terrific cast. This movie definitely has that European feeling, shot in Oslo (Norway), not your typical Hollywood production which in my opinion is a plus for this movie. There is a lot of character development, but it's to the benefit of the viewer. It has some violent scenes in it. The story progression is slower than expected however it just makes the movie better. The Blu-ray video quality was very good.

A Detective Thriller Movie!
First of all this is not a Friday 13th movie or anything like that and that’s what throws some people off.....this is a great detective thriller with beautiful scenery with a story you need to follow then you can enjoy it for what it is.,..I was pleasantly surprised.
