I wanted an old school glass/mercury thermometer and that is what it is. Was tired of electronic/battery devices that are not consistent on readings, even when done close together. It’s a little difficult to read - just have to twist it until can see the reading. Also have to shake the mercury level down before using. I’m happy with it!

I’ve ordered these glass thermometers twice hoping I had a defective item the first time. NOPE both times the product did not work. There is a narrowing in the tube the doesn’t allow the liquid to move within the thermometer when placed in hot water to test. I first ordered these in the summer and didn’t try the product out until I was recently sick and found out it was defective. Amazon has a horrible return service, there was no way for me to get a full refund or replacement with the amount of time that had passed. Walmart.com is much better with customer service in comparison. Take your business elsewhere and save yourself the hassle!!

Mercury oral thermometers are difficult to find, but these are built like the old standards. They do have some issues though. The scale is in degrees F and C, which is fine but it is very small. Unless you have perfect vision, you will need glasses and/or a magnifying glass to read it. The biggest issue is the calibration. You get two thermometers, so I took both of these plus an old one which I know to be reliable, put them all in my mouth at the same time. After 4 minutes the two new ones read 98.4 F and 99.2 F. The old reliable one read 98.4 F. So ... if you buy these, be sure to check their calibration, either against a thermometer you trust, or perhaps take you temperature when you are healthy and compare the readings. The whole reason I want to use old fashioned mercury oral thermometer is because the new digital ones often have unreliable calibrations, so this is something this manufacturer needs to work on -- and make the scale bigger so it is easier to read.

It is always good to have a backup thermometer for when the digital thermometer is not working properly. I was recently ill and I compared them. I found the same temperature on both this thermometer and the digital.

Don't know what it is about the digital thermometers, but I've had an awful time with them going bad. Need something accurate and the old style doesn't fail.
