Mallory Towers meets St Trinians...
When new girl Daphne Blake arrives at the exclusive St Rita’s Girls Boarding School for Spirited Girls, she finds nothing is quite as it seems. The school turns out to be a crumbling heap, where lessons are optional and the students are anarchic at best, criminal at worst! Though delighted to be offered the chance to be interviewed for the position of librarians assistant’s assistant, Daphne discovers that the librarian doesn’t really exist. Instead there is the librarians assistant, Emily Lime, a crime solving genius who’s looking for an assistant of her own & Daphne fits the bill. So Daphne with the help of George (the only boy in the boarding school) assist Emily in not only solving a crime & mystery or two but in also restocking the library in the process. With the feeling of an old fashioned classic along the lines of Enid Blyton but with a far more dark and mischievous streak, like St Trinians, The Book Case - An Emily Lime Mystery is a deliciously engaging story with a great boarding school setting. This funny and cleverly written book is full of memorable quirky characters, and the black & white illustrations compliment the story very well. A fun fast paced detective novel with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. A right rollicking 5⭐️ Read.

A school story with books as the focus. Mystery and lots of genre staples, a feel of the modern and the nostalgic.
In the grand tradition of Blyton, Trebizon, even Harry Potter, the great 'school story' genre staples... we now have a mystery with the boarding school library at the heart of it (as Hermione herself would be proud).I've read Shelton before and liked him, though this is wildly different. The first in a series, as Daphne arrives at her new school and 'interviews' to become the library assistant... acutally no, the library assistant's ASSISTANT. Her 'boss' is Emily Lime, a supremely bossy student in a rather unusual school, a little like a junior St Trinian's, where pupils get up to all sorts at all hours. And it's into this setting that a mystery is mixed, one in which the smart Daphne will have to work with overbearing Emily.I'd only just finished another 'children in a mystery' story (set in a hotel) when starting this, so they did feel a little interchangable at times, though I loved the fact that books and libraries were the solutions (as well as the clues) to the plots. Daphne is likeable, though didn't stand out particular, Emily Lime is more memorable and didn't annoy too much as I wondered about at the start.Great school setting, a very unique establishment that I'd love to see more of, even from the perspectives of different students.I listened to the Audible version of this, which moved along nicely and would be enjoyed by listeners around 9-12. It should keep their attention. With thanks to Nudge Books for providing a sample copy.

a very intriguing mystery
The Book Case is a hilarious mystery about a girl called Daphne who's been kicked out of her new school. When a letter arrives inviting her to study at St Rita's School for Spirited Girls, her parents jump at the opportunity. Even before she arrives there you know something is definitely off about the boarding school. To say the girls are 'spirited' is an understatement - more like outrageous and shocking. Here Daphne meets the loveable George (the only boy at the girls' school) and Assistant Librarian Emily Lime. Daphne is annoyed that she has to interview for the Assistant Assistant Librarian post which she assumed was hers but it seems the librarian is off sick and has left Emily Lime in charge. Strange things have been happening at St Rita's but more strange things are to occur. St Rita's is described so well it almost seems like I knew it like the back of my hand. The characters are distinct and definitely memorable.Amatullah liked the characters in this book, especially clumsy George and Emily Lime who can be described as blunt. She did find the story a bit hard to follow in the middle when the children were investigating the bank robbing in town. But by the end of the story everything fell into place. This book was a challenge for her to read because of the length - she's used to reading much shorter books so I'm really proud she finished the book. As a long time fan of mysteries I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It made me laugh and smile at their misadventures and experiences, and I whizzed through the book in no time.Dave Shelton has written a very intriguing mystery that will keep you guessing till the end. It was a delight meeting Emily Lime and we hope to read more about her soon. The drawings are great and complement the story well.

Loved this!
Romping good read as junior librarians turn detective in a St Trinian's style school. Just perplexed as to why it's an Emily Lime Mystery when she wasn't the main character.

Three Stars
Very like the Murder Most Unladylike series. I felt it was longer than it really needed to be.

Emily Lime--definitely not a lemon
Why is the book subtitled an Emily Lime mystery when the protagonist appears to be Daphne?Who and why is George the only boy in all all girls school? Why was Daphne sent to St Rita's School for girls? Why does Emily always wear a beret?Hopefully there will be a second book. This initial mystery is very enjoyable and the reader hopes for a sequel.
