Review: My review - So I just turned the last page of "The 4 Pillars of Critical Thinking," and want to share my experience with this enlightening read. My review might be a bit long, sorry about that: From the moment I picked up Patrik Ian Meyer's book, I was intrigued by the promise of mastering critical thinking skills that could transform both my personal and professional life. The book did not disappoint. It's a comprehensive guide that lives up to its ambitious title, delivering a wealth of strategies, techniques, and insights aimed at enhancing decision-making, problem-solving, and reasoning abilities. Meyer's approach to critical thinking is both practical and profound. The book is structured around the titular four pillars, which serve as the foundation for developing a robust critical thinking framework. Each pillar is explored, with the author presenting a mix of theoretical background and actionable techniques that readers can apply in various aspects of their lives. The techniques and hacks mentioned in the book are great. These aren't just abstract concepts; they're practical tools that, when applied, can significantly improve one's ability to analyze situations, make informed decisions, and reason effectively. The sections on detecting logical fallacies and overcoming bias were particularly enlightening, offering clear examples and strategies to navigate the complex information landscape we face today. Meyer's writing is accessible and engaging, making complex ideas understandable to readers without sacrificing depth. The interactive approach helps solidify the learning and makes the journey through the book both educational and enjoyable. After finishing the book, I feel more capable of navigating complexities and making well-reasoned decisions, which is a testament to the effectiveness of Meyer's methods. However, the book's breadth and depth, while strengths, can also be overwhelming at times. The sheer volume of techniques and strategies could daunt readers new to critical thinking. Yet, Meyer anticipates this challenge, organizing the content in a way that allows readers to gradually build their skills and confidence as they progress through the chapters. In summary, "The 4 Pillars of Critical Thinking" is a powerful tool for anyone looking to enhance their cognitive abilities, make better decisions, and understand the world more clearly. Whether you're struggling with decision-making, seeking to improve your problem-solving skills, or simply curious about the art of reasoning well, this book offers valuable insights and practical tools to help you achieve your goals. I highly recommend it to anyone on a journey of self-improvement and intellectual growth. Review: think more clearly and make better choices - This book is a must-read for anyone wanting to improve their critical thinking and make smarter decisions. It’s packed with practical techniques to help you spot flaws in arguments, solve problems, and overcome biases, which is more important than ever in today’s info-packed world. What really makes it stand out is its clear, four-part approach—laying the groundwork, improving your thinking process, and showing how to apply these skills in real life. It’s not just theory; the book pushes you to reflect and grow, making critical thinking feel like a real superpower you can use every day. Valuable toolkit
This book offered a comprehensive exploration of its four essential pillars: foundation, process, improvement, and application. The foundation laid a solid groundwork, differentiating critical thinking from other modes of thought and outlining the essential skills required for mastery. The process section provided invaluable insights into understanding data, problem-solving, and crafting effective solutions. I particularly appreciated the emphasis on improvement through self-reflection and critical thinking exercises. This approach encouraged personal growth and the development of a more disciplined thought process. The application section was enlightening, demonstrating how critical thinking can be integrated into everyday life to enhance decision-making, problem-solving, and communication. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the role critical thinking plays in persuasion, a connection I had not previously considered. Overall, this book has equipped me with a valuable toolkit for sharpening my analytical skills, making informed decisions, and effectively communicating my ideas.

A Useful Book that Teaches You How to Think Critically
The 4 Pillars of Critical Thinking: 103 Techniques & Hacks to Improve Your Work and Personal Life by Mastering Mental Skills, by Patrik Meyer, is written for anyone who wants to become self-actualized. The ideal readers of this book are individuals who have a tough time making decisions or who struggle with problem solving. Since everyone has problems they encounter in their lives that they must solve, and since the world is full of people who are less than decisive, there’s hardly anyone who can’t take some valuable lessons from this book. Many of the strategies it describes focus on practical decision making and using logic, and it’s hard to argue with the methodology. The ability to make confident decisions and the attitude that nothing you encounter in this world presents an insurmountable challenge can only help the majority of the general population. The lessons on offer can help you in your work life, with relationships, and in virtually any other situation, making this a treasure of a book that can motivate even the most timid or wishy-washy of individuals.

For Ages 11 and Under - Horrible and Disgusting
This is the most empty, basic piece of literature I've ever read. I've been an Amazon customer for about 10 years, and during that time, this is the first review I've ever written. It is out of complete shock and irritation that such a book could be published, caused by my respect for the sanctity of books, that I decided to write this review. The world should be outraged that such a worthless book could have been published. Below are a few quotes from this "book." "Critical thinking is more than just a problem-solving tool. As such, it also promotes critical and creative thinking, which encourages creativity in tackling complex problems." "Communication is a skill that allows for the free exchange of ideas." "Problem-solving is a critical thinking skill that involves identifying and defining problems. Likewise, it allows us to generate potential solutions, evaluate and select the most effective solution, and implement it." Nearly the entire first half of the book mirrors the quotes above, but with a microscopic addition of information. It's paragraph after paragraph of nothingness, in which the same words are used, such as "creativity," "skill," "problem-solving," "strategies," "patterns," "complex," and of course, "critical thinking." I don't know what the second half holds because I ripped the book into five pieces after the first half. Candidly, there was one section of the book that served as a useful refresher, which was the brief section on cognitive bias. However, this section is not worth supporting financially the writer and publisher of this ridiculous book.

A good look at handling misinformation
While the book promises a toolkit of 103 techniques and hacks, the layout of the content didn't really deliver on these. However, it does address modern challenges like navigating misinformation and overcoming bias, making it especially relevant in today's information-saturated world. There are also concrete methods for strengthening analytical skills and improving communication.

Correctly thinking
Correct thinking is an art in itself. Everyone thinks differently and acts accordingly. Beautiful ways are shown here and described as it is and can be. I would have liked to have had a few more examples. But the existing ones are really good. In this day and age, everyone has to change and adapt their thinking. some can even be removed. That's why we should use our thinking correctly every day. This is nicely illustrated here.

Boost Your Thinking Skills
This book really nails the whole tech and info world, showing how awesome it is to get info super easily, but also pointing out a big downside – it might mess with your critical thinking. It's like, too much easy info can make us lazy thinkers, just accepting stuff without really thinking about it. The author warns about how this convenience vibe can lead to info overload and a brain that's not so good at critical thinking. But here's the cool part: the book is like a guide to boost your critical thinking skills. It's well put together, and the four pillars it talks about give you a clear roadmap. I just wish there were more real-life examples to help get the point across better. The part about personal change and the "superpower" idea really pumps you up – turns the book into not just something to read but something that pushes you to think better. Totally recommend it!

Very textbook-like
The book is very textbook-like. That could be a good or bad thing depending on your personal preference, but I personally would have liked it to be a bit more engaging and conversational. Moving on to the things I did like. I liked the helpful comparison with uncritical thinking. I liked the bit about identifying one’s assumptions and biases. I liked the examples of critical thinking in action—e.g., a company trying to increase profits and deciding among varius strategies for doing so. I liked the point about using self-reflection to be intentional about the choices we make (it’s like living on autopilot vs living consciously)—and also the advice the book gives you about how to do this, e.g., journaling & mind-mapping. I like the advice on how to read critically (especially relevant in an era of fake news!). Overall, decent book.
