Defective component
I purchased this post adapter as part of a project to replace a failed 40 year old post fixture equipped with a mercury vapor bulb and the paraphernalia required to start the MV bulb and provide the correct voltage. Its photo switch had failed and it was burning 175 Watts 24x7.I removed all the old electrical gear. I wired the new photo cell and installed a 100 Watt incandescent lamp. It was day time but when I turned the power on, the lamp came on and stayed on.I checked everything:Incorrect wiring? No. (i'm not a newbie. But anyone can make a mistake)Some weird timing function? No. I Let it run for the full 24 hours. The lamp remained on throughout. The solution? Buy a new photocell unit. Fortunately it had the same form factor as the failed unit. Instant joy! On and off as night follows day!All that remains is to buy and install an LED lamp. I figure about 15 Watts will match the old mercury vapor lamp output saving an average of about 1kW per night (12 cents per kW hour hereabouts).
