This has been a game changer for us in collecting compostable waste. Having something you can open with your foot, and holds so much, has really made a difference. The bags are nice and strong, and unless poked by bones, seem to hold up to packed contents well. Have had a couple hiccups with the top opening. It can get stuck closed - we believe the bag was so full inside that it was impeding the movement of the bar that leverages it open. Just pop the top open and it's fine.We empty ours every 2-3 days, and no smell problem so far (utilizing the provided insert helps that, I assume).Very happy to have this!!

I live in the sticks, and like the idea of composting, but I’m lazy and the compost pile is a ways away from the house and we eat a lot of fruit/ veggies so not wanting to make as many trips, I opted for this. Over all I’m satisfied, I don’t store the bags in the container as sometimes stuff leaks downs the bags and into a drain bin that (i line with puppy pads) to help absorb any leakage, the drain bin is only accessible by reaching down into the container, which you can’t just pull straight up you have to angle to get out! This is my biggest complaint. Had they made it with a drawer at the bottom (like a kitty litter pan) the drain pan would be more easily accessible and less mess. As far as odor the “genies” have always stood up to their name!! (DO NOT PUT BIG CHUNKS OF WATERMELON OR CANTELOPE IN THE GENIE) it will tear the bag then it will leak in the non- easily- accessible drain bin then when you notice the smell because it does such a good job of holding odors, and Covid nose IS a thing, it’s rather disgusting!

We started composting at work. This was great for a small office to get started. The smell is kept at bay but not. the nats. There are a few lips and trays that need to be kept very clean or you open the lid and 50 nats come out at you and cover the freshly painted white wall. Weekly cleanings and shredded newspaper to soak up the 'gardeners liquid gold' has helped.

First it was sent in the wrong color but we got past that. The design however is very poor. The tray at the bottom of the compost bin meant to catch any leaks from the bag does not come out easily. You have to pull the bag out and very carefully balance the tray while pulling it up and out so it doesn’t leak. It would be better if it slide out the front. If you don’t change it within a couple of days the bags leak and you are left taking the entire compost bin apart to make sure everything is clean. The worst gift we have given.

I was really excited about this compost bin as I was tired of using a bucket and lid that was disgusting to empty. However, being a single person, I evidently don't have enough scraps to empty this often enough. When I went to pull out the bag to put in my compost pile, the bottom broke through and the mess went everywhere!I love the idea of compostable bags but keep in mind you need to empty this often so the bag isn't deteriorating while still in the bin.Also, the kid doesn't really seal tightly, so there is still the compost smell around the bin. I definitely wouldn't keep this bin indoors for the odor and all the bugs that come with composting.I would not buy this product again. Even if my bucket and screw lid was a gross mess to clean out, it was tightly sealed, keeping the odor and bugs in and I didn't have to empty it very often.

Love this Composting pail! we have also used the Diaper Genie brand for our kids and thought this would be a great addition to the home! Love that is saves me counter space and the black metal pail goes well with our trash and recycling bins in the house! Keeps the smell of the composting food in! Love the wide top opening! This is a great addition to our kitchen space!

It comes with garbage bags that roll up from the bottom but the perforation is so weak that it tore the bottom of the bag every time we used it. We gave up and started using regular kitchen bags in it. Now the lid has broken and won’t close. Considering the mess we dealt with from compost dropping all over the kitchen floor and the dysfunctional lid I do not recommend it and this is a rare review for me, written as a warning for others.
