How long does it last if not touched?

The crystals are a powder crystal that do dry more and more as time goes on. I have seen them begin to flake off within days or remain in place for months, I am not sure if the amount of solution used makes the difference. If they flake off, you can gather them in the tray and sprinkle water on them to watch them grow again!
