Good read, insightful and clear explanation of the word ikigai and helps you begin the process of finding your own

The author really knew how to connect Japanese history and cultural perspectives in this book. She also showed many other perspectives, such as interviewing many types of people to ask about what their ikigai is. She interviewed corporate workers, mothers, husbands, students elders and even other journalists. This book also gives shows you and gives you advice on how the audience can find their ikigai. Very great book if you’re struggling to understand or adapt to life in a simple way.

Reading this book has helped to bring more clarity to what ikigai is and what ikigai isn’t.It’s a complex construct that’s a little ephemeral which makes it a lot harder to fully grasp when you want a formulaic definition.

Over the last 7 plus decades I have had a passion for numerous Japanese Martial and cultural arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Haiku, Senryu, Tanka poetry and Taiko drumming) and this is why when I saw this concise 112-page hardcover book (Ikigai: Giving every day meaning and joy by Yukari Mitsuhashi) while browsing on Amazon I purchased it.Like many Japanese words, Ikigai have multiple interpretations that is not always clear to Americans. The basic definition of Ikigai means “The value of life or happiness in life.”The six chapters in this informative and inspiring small volume provide a clear and easy to understand introduction to Ikigai. It covers “What is Ikigai? Defining Ikigai, interests and Ikigai, work and Ikigai, inspiring Ikigai, and Ikigai is the action we take in pursuit of happiness.”If you are seeking to learn about the living a full and happy life according to Ikigai, you may want to check out this book.Rating: 5 Stars. Mid-size pocket book that is packed with a beautiful inspiration to taking action toward your happiness. I first heard the term Ikigai in Candice Kumai’s Kintsugi Wellness and I wanted to learn more. Yukari Mitsuhashi lays it out in simple to understand terms and in a very fluid way. I enjoyed this short read and I often times keep it by my bedside table so I can refer back to it for a gentle Ikigai reminder when needed.

There may be a time in everyone's life where you may feel lost and searching for something meaningful that will light up the flames in your eyes, something to make you keep going, and I wish you can find it, its your Ikigai! Thank you Yukari Mitsuhashi for the simple and straightforward explanation about what Ikigai is and tips on how to find it! As they say in western society, some people know what they are supposed to be very early in life, others may take time, so its important to keep going and never give up trying to find your reason to be in this world.

In this unsettling time in the United States (pandemic, high stakes election coming, western wildfires, struggling economy), I think most of us are looking for ways to feel happier. This lovely little book helped me remind myself what brings me joy. My ikigai right now is chiefly learning--I am always happy when I'm learning!--and it's safe to say knowing more about this lovely Japanese concept has brought me joy. Many thanks to the author!
