Weaving Country Baskets

This little book really has helped me. It has clear directions and illustations,and it's easy to understand. This is exactly what I was looking for to refresh my memory about making baskets after so many years. Plus, there is a list of suppliers in the back of the book. If you are interested in basket making and looking at the other books, throw this one in with the other books, at this price, it's a great value. The other books give great history and old photos of basketmaking, but this one is just a "how-to" book.

this has been a great book as i have begun weaving once again after many years. it has provided the instructions for things i had forgotten and some coll patterns to get started. i would recommend this book to anyone wishing for a hobby with beautiful, useful results

It's my own fault. I thought the book would have more patterns. The ones it has are explained very well and I do like it.

As another reviewer writes, this is not quite as I expected, but perhaps I should have read the specs first. It is not a book, but a booklet, running to 31 pages, with some basic instructions and 2 basket projects to make. It is an American publication and this is an important point to note since it deals with baskets made from reeds, a material not used in the UK, but you can substitute it for flat, oval and round cane. It has no list of suppliers and in my researches you can find cane, but not so easily found are the accessories such as pre-formed handles and ribs. Still, there are some good instructions on technique, which is always worthwhile. Nevertheless, in the UK, while cane is used, the principle material used ius willow and the beginner might do well to look for a book on basket weaving that concentrates on the use of this material. Overall, this book is very cheap, easily read and with good instructions on weaving technique, so you won't waste money buying it, but other books from UK writers and publishers may be more useful in the first instance.
