I bought one of these radios and my wife and i liked it do much that we bought another. However we soon learned that the batteries don't last very long. Even at normal volume, the batteries last only a small fraction of the time they last in our comparable Panasonic RF-2400D which we have had for a long time, and which also uses four AA batteries. In the Panasonic they last for 4 months or more, in this radio less than a month. And if you use high volumes as my wife does because she is hard of hearing they last only a few days. These radios also cost almost twice as much as the Panasonics. Since we use rechargeable batteries it is not a major problem but it is an inconvenience. On the plus side, these radios have a separate little compartment for each battery, This makes it a little harder to change the batteries, but will hopefully make the radio last longer since my other portable radios , which all had two batteries per compartment all started to have trouble with the battery connections after a while, meaning that you had to fiddle with the batteries to get the power to work, and that they often lost the connection if you just picked the radio up and put it down again. Also, it would be nice if the most important buttons (volume controls and preset buttons) were easier to find in the dark. They could be a different shape or have a texture that you could feel, perhaps. That said, the radios are a very nice size, and the sound is good.

I must admit I was skeptical. I have read the reviews, many rate this radio 5 stars. I decided to buy it, and I am pleasantly surprised. There is no shortwave, so it is a AM / FM radio. It has outstanding sensitivity, both on the AM Broadcast Band and the FM Broadcast band. I'm very surprised by it's performance. I bought it for a little more than 40 dollars. I would say other radios for the same performance are charging double that. The audio quality is very good. I have heard better, but for the price, it's excellent. I don't think you could go wrong with this purchase. You can do a little DXing of the AM band, and it does pick up distant FM signals as well. Not the best radio, but for the price outstanding. I can pick up an AM station from Orlando that is 100 miles away ( 540 ) I have an old Panasonic RF-2200 that should be superior, and it is, but I was surprised that the sensitivity of this radio. The RF-2200 is considered by many to be the best on the AM band, and king of the hill. However, this Sangean was close in performance. I also checked a AM Broadcast signal, 950 from Orlando. I'm 100 miles away, and only the best radios will " Hear " this station. It's a Talk station but only 12K watts. The Panasonic RF-2200 picks it up fairly well. You can understand all the commentary and what's being said. The Sangean also picks up this station ! I was amazed. Is it as good as the RF-2200. No ! But for the price this is got to be one of the best AM / FM radios I have ever owned. I'm a radio junkie, and own over 40 radios, and this radio is a keeper. It's perfect for around the house, or for travel, being that it is small. Perfect for me !

This is a basic portable radio which fits my needs exactly. The sound is great, it is fairly small and light. This is the second one I have bought. The previous one is showing its age (7 years) and I felt it is time for a new one. I would recommend this to anyone.

Great. I have bought a lot of Sangean radios. Not the cheapest but I need more things like push button tuning. It's stereo with headphone. It's beautiful looking. Great quality.
