There's a lot to like in this new collection - new as a collection, even if most submissions date from the 1980s or 1990s. Some, like Huff, use the figure as a simple play of curves and shading. Others, like Bencicova, capture different moods of interaction. Van der Niet uses simple props in surprising ways to push literal photography toward the surreal, and Maximus makes the most of the deepest skin tones. Lobban reminds us that there's nothing simple about simple portraiture, and that the physical person can never be separated from the person within. Kohler's model Zoe personifies androgynous charm and gamine elegance.I don't expect to like everything in a compilation like this, and that's fine. I do hope for a good wheat-to-chaff ratio, though, and I find this only middling. It's an attractive and well-printed work. For the price, though, I find others more worthwhile.-- wiredweird
P**.
A disappointment.
This edition does not match the quality or variety of its five earlier incarnations. It has an overall gloomy collection and lacks variety. Not worth the price.
